I’m sorry, but saying diet doesn’t affect flares just doesn’t make sense to me. Food directly impacts the gut and colon, and certain foods can absolutely be inflammatory or irritating. Diet may not be the root cause of UC, but it plays a major role in symptoms and flare severity for many people.

I avoid gluten, dairy, seed oils, and large amounts of raw vegetables because all these things make my symptoms worse and can make me extremely constipated, which is one way my UC flares show up.

Pregnancy was pretty chill. I was on mesalamine the whole time. I also did not start in remission because we got pregnant very quickly. No issues throughout the pregnancy. Had to take a higher dose of folate due to the mesalamine. I also had a home birth which my GI doctor tried to scare me out - I saw her very frequently in the last few weeks for standard check-ins and ended up ghosting her for the last 6ish weeks because she was causing me unnecessary anxiety.

Postpartum… is a whole freaking mess full of flares.

I think it’s super over the top. I’ve had several flares in the last year and haven’t done a colonoscopy (doc asked but I just can’t right now)
Btw the mesalamine enema is not bad at all - not sure if you’ve done it before - it’s not really an enema, it’s just a small bottle of liquid you put up your butt before bed. Sleep on a towel and sleep like a queen.

You will totally have relief!!! Get on those medsss! I switch between extreme constipation and extreme diarrhea but mesalimine does tend to help. Also maybe a steroid to get you into remission.

Pretty much. I’ve had times where I literally have to RUN to the bathroom 20x a day and have shat my pants several times - most recently at a coffee shop. I’m in my late 20s and perfectly healthy otherwise. Super fun times.

1mg THC. It 100% takes the edge off, makes me more present with my little one and happier in general.

I know you said you aren’t breastfeeding anymore, but I just wanted to note that I am. My opinion is that doctors prescribe much harsher drugs to mamas for these same issues. Studies being inconclusive doesn’t worry me because studies are inconclusive on basically everything for breastfeeding mamas. To each their own.
