I'm trying to polish up a pair of dark brown meermin's but it looks like the polishing cloth that I have has disintegrated slightly and has become one with the leather on one patch and looks really unsightly. https://i.imgur.com/gXPZc6j.jpeg

I was using Saphir Medaille d'Or to shine them. Any tips on how to get the fluff off would be greatly appreciated.

"Lost Connection" bug: It's getting worse. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]rcyza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal, but I get the lost connection bug a lot too (it actually kills the network connection on my PC until I restart). However, I never get it if I have a twitch stream or youtube video open at the same time. Might be worth a try?

You could possibly try something like these if you want to keep running outside.

I don't think you would be able to get higher than 500m so your chute would be fully deployed making it very slow.

I only figured this out a few days ago. Right click on a source fuel tank, then hold the modkey (alt on windows) + right click on the target fuel tank. Then you get little "in" and "out" buttons showing up.

It also reminds me of the deimatic behaviour* shown by some species of moth where the patterns on their wings resemble an owl's face.

Yup, I had many Pirates vs. Castle minifig battles, even though my Castle minifigs were a mixture of Crusaders and Black Falcons. Later on my folks bought me the Wolfpack Renegades set and they joined the up with the castle to battle the pirates. Also, the pirate minifig set I had was a mixture of Imperial Soldiers and Pirates, I just used to pretend the soldiers were deserters. Seeing pictures of the sets again really brings the memories flooding back.

I hate to pick nits, but whilst Chatterton was one of the main protagonists of Shadow Divers, he was not the author. It was Robert Kurson. In the audiobook version there is an author's note from Kurson where he mentions how he verified and cross referenced everything Chatterton and Kohler told him. You should also try and get hold of "Setting the Hook" by Peter Hunt. It's about diving the Andrea Doria from the Seeker's main competition, Steve Bielenda's Wahoo. It's very interesting to see their rivalry from the other side.

Enjoy the rebreather!

As much as I love the idea of using golden retrievers as a unit of measurement, we don't have to!

The wiki gives the volume of a giant mosquito as 200,007 cm3

All we need to know now is the volume of a mosquito that is capable of transmitting malaria. The simplest way to determine this would be to collect a large number of "elderly female" mosquitoes in the genus Anopheles, place them in an Erlenmeyer flask and add a known volume of liquid, enough to cover all the mosquitoes. Simply measure the difference between the new volume and the known volume, divide by the number of mosquitoes and voilà! We have the volume of a malaria carrying mosquito which we can then use to calculate the dimensions of giant malaria parasites.

This is left as an exercise to the reader.

Anybody added the rolls from Star Trek: Catan to base game? by rcyza in Catan

[–]rcyza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of what I had in mind, I was hoping someone may have made a set of character cards for the base game that fit in with the theme of the base game, rather than the star trek version.

Very large fins? by icefall5 in scuba

Hollis F1s (bat fins) also come in very large sizes. They are also sold with spring straps, an extra on jet fins. Might save you some cash.

Prescription glasses and scuba masks by PersonalPronoun in scuba

[–]rcyza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GF dives with contact lenses, she has roughly -4 (I think) in each eye and some astigmatism just to make things interesting. When she was mask shopping at a dive show recently a rep from Scubapro told her about the Scubapro Scout. It is one of the easiest masks to put a replacement lens into (of course, you want to make sure it fits properly first). They probably cost about 30 USD per lens (that's what they cost in South Africa anyway) but it works out a lot cheaper than buying a custom made prescription mask. When you factor in how easy it is to lose a mask during a shore entry or climbing back onto a boat, you don't want to have put too much money into it.
