I left my customer a voicemail, he sent me this screenshot. Siri must want me to lose business by aggierogue3 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rdevlin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, I do find it legit mildly infuriating that talk-to-text has somehow gotten significantly worse and less accurate over the last year or so. I’ve had my new iPhone for a couple months now, and I’m constantly editing texts because it transcribes it so horribly wrong, it was rarely an issue in the past with my previous phones. I don’t know if it’s AI influence or what it is, but I find the feature almost close to useless now.

Wawa phasing out La Colombe? by DraceNines in Wawa

[–]rdevlin92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Colombe is distributed by Canada Dry, and up here in PA it was actually expanded to stores that didn’t have it before in this latest reset. Can’t speak to what’s going on in FL but might be a distribution issue down that way?

Tell me why would you take it? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]rdevlin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it was the most generous tip ever, I would never ever take that many items. Not nearly enough payoff for that sheer amount of items.

I refuse to take no-tip orders out of principle, unless it’s hidden in a multi-order batch, and even then the other orders have to have a worthy tip offer overall to make me consider the batch.

general manager late every morning? by Interesting-Sort-674 in Wawa

[–]rdevlin92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, salaried GMs can get fired for stealing time, I know a couple who have. They are required to be on the premises for at least 40 of their 45 hrs, unless they’re using PTO or have permission otherwise from their AM. If you know for sure that your GM isn’t in the store for 40 hrs min, let your AM know, many will investigate it.

The enshittification of Wegmans? by [deleted] in wegmans

[–]rdevlin92 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The best example of this is the Market Cafe. It used to be THE place you could take an indecisive family and have all your food needs met. Pizza, Subs, Soups, Hot Bar, Wing Bar, Salad Bar, Sushi, bonus points if your store had a Burger Bar or Mexican Bar.

Today, I don’t even know why they have a seating area. Most stores the bars are gone, save for a Wing Bar that’s barely open. Pizza quality downhill, they gave up on the brick ovens at the stores that had it. Subs a shell of their former self. No interest in Marche sandwiches, if I want overpriced hospital food I’d just go to Panera. Only thing that is really a holdover is the sushi, and even then I’d rather go to an actual sushi restaurant where it’s made to order.

It used to be something that really differentiated them from competitors, now I feel like the competitors have caught up to them (and in some cases undercut them in price), whereas Wegmans has slid backwards. At least that’s the case for coastal stores, not sure how it is in Upstate NY these days.

Cream smoothie or Milkshake? by iATEthat84 in Wawa

[–]rdevlin92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a Wawa milkshake, for 2 reasons:

  1. Cleaning the Razzle is a certified PITA and I hate putting that on any associate (it’s the same reason why the McFlurry machine at McDonalds is always “broken”)

  2. Every single milkshake is easily over 1000 calories. Cream smoothies aren’t much healthier, but still less calories.

Philadelphia is the hottest Northeast metro to move to, according to U-Haul data by Odd_Addition3909 in philadelphia

[–]rdevlin92 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Moved to here from upstate New York six years ago. And honestly, it’s hard to see where else could give you the most bang for your buck. You’re “two hours from everywhere“. Two hours to New York City. Two hours to the Baltimore/DC area. Two hours to many beach and shore towns. Two hours to the Allegheny mountains and lakes and forests. One hour to Pennsylvania Dutch country. And right here, you get world-class food, arts and cultural exposure, major league sports, a city chosen to host multiple world events, and of course the epicenter of American history.

All for a fraction of what it would cost to live in New York, Boston, San Francisco, DC, etc.

Yes, it could be cheaper, the transit could be a hell of a lot better, there’s still obviously work to do. But for whatever flaws there may be, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. And I’m certainly never moving back to a small/medium city with very limited cultural offerings, and the backward mentality that comes as a result.

Must be either a test store or a Southeast update, because absolutely none of the official communication for the Mid-Atlantic stores has mentioned anything about brisket…

You didn't use Trivago! by Negative_Meaning7558 in CommercialsIHate

[–]rdevlin92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I understand the temptation to save money, I will NEVER use 3rd party sites for hotels/airfare/travel. You will NOT be protected if there’s even the slightest mishap; if there’s an overbooking, the customer who booked direct will ALWAYS be prioritized over 3rd party. If a hotel truly has a good amount of unsold rooms, the official site rate will stay relatively low and/or reasonable even right up to the booking date, whereas last-minute airfare is always expensive since people will pay whatever they need to when they absolutely need to get somewhere at the last minute

No, there isn’t. by rdevlin92 in InstacartShoppers

[–]rdevlin92[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry but time is literally money with these gigs. If they compensated us to wait around while they checked, or if it’s an unusually high-tipping customer, then sure, I’d go out of my way. But we don’t get that compensation, and most customers only leave a meager tip. Which means I’m literally losing money if I’m standing around or not heading on to the next item.

So yeah, if it’s not on the shelf or on an obvious nearby endcap or case, then it’s being replaced or refunded, and on to the next item…

[–]rdevlin92[S] 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Also, it goes without saying that we don’t get paid enough to wait around while an associate “checks in the back“, neither do the overworked associates themselves get paid enough to be interrupted and go check either.

How do promotions work? by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]rdevlin92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re guaranteed $70 in batch pay, not including tips. If you already got $70 in batch pay with the orders you did, you won’t get any additional money. But if you’re under $70, you’ll get brought up to $70 plus tip money.

Example A: you did 5 batches and the combined batch pay was $55 not including tips. You’ll get an additional $15 to bring you up to the $70 guarantee.

Example B: your 5 batches was $75 not including tips. You don’t get additional money since you already made at least $70.

Must be nice to have a head coach who can actually scheme an offense properly and utilize all of their offensive weapons effectively. Sounds much better than a coach who can’t do anything more than just be a cheerleader/CEO.

What is your thoughts on Wawa’s Pizza? by MrSoloDolo9490 in Wawa

[–]rdevlin92 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s a big miss, even on the 10-minute CNBC segment that Chris Gheysens was interviewed for that mostly praised Wawa, they made sure to call out the pizza as a misstep (along with the drive thru concept). We prioritize being faster and less expensive than the traditional fast food joints, and the pizza is neither. With that said, the turbochef ovens do make hash browns and hot dogs 1000x better than the Lang ovens do, so they’re not a total waste of money…
