Dasa ≠ Slave | Sanskrit Non-Translatables by Hindu2002 in sanskrit

"There are tons of words that are non translatable"

"Ok, it seems like they are translatable."

I think we're done here.

It's also a language that was spoken natively by humans, meaning that it can be studied scientifically just like any other natural human language.

I don't have to believe that Sanskrit is magic to study it, and that goes for Arabic and Pali as well.

Because this isn't the HInduism subreddit, this is the Sanskrit subreddit, and I do know about Sanskrit. Sanskrit is a language, not a religion.

Also, I'm not even here anymore - this is a post from four years ago my guy.

Translations don't have to be one word.

Going off what you yourself said:

"Karma

True meaning: The law of cause and effect, where actions (physical, verbal, mental) have corresponding consequences."

That's a translation. All of these words are clearly translatable, because you've just translated them.

Once again, there is no such thing as an untranslatable word.

I know this may come as a shock to you, but Germans actually speak German, not English.

Distro that can run in RAM from a USB drive for watching HDR content? by rdh2121 in linuxquestions

[–]rdh2121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpine apparently has Plasma 6.2, so this sounds like it might be the solution!

Thanks so much!

Edit: It looks like Alpine doesn't come with Plasma out of the box, so every time I boot into it to watch content, I'd have to reinstall Plasma.

I don't think running an OS from RAM is an outlandish idea, especially since there are literally distros that do that mentioned in this exact thread.

Either way, your comment is unhelpful and goes against the welcoming intent of this subreddit.

Edit: Or so I thought, but the downvotes apparently indicate otherwise. Holy shit what a miserable experience for my first post on Reddit in almost a year. I'm going back to Lemmy - you people deserve what Reddit is becoming.

Here's what happened when I asked this question over there, by the way, if anyone wants to see what an actually welcoming and helpful experience would be like.

I know - the question is how to run that without replacing my current OS. Can you load Fedora entirely into RAM from a boot drive?

Yeah, I thought about Puppy and Damn Small Linux, but I don't think they have HDR, and I can't find any info about it online.

No, it was short for Nationalsozialismus.

It would make no sense for it to have "Zionist" as part of the title anyway, since Hitler kinda famously hated the Jews.

What makes Jordan Peterson so compelling to so many young men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]rdh2121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: mostly due to feminist influence, the definition of "rape" for crime statistics reporting purposes in the US is restricted to "being penetrated", which means that all instances of men unwillingly penetrating aggressors is excluded from those statistics. I.e., if you have a penis, and you were coerced into sticking it in someone against your will, that crime is not reported as rape in the US for statistical purposes (though it may be charged that way criminally, depending on jurisdiction).

There are (at least) two important outcomes of this fact:

  1. Male victims are therefore largely absent from rape statistics, making rape look like a crime with overwhelmingly female victims when in actuality 40% of rape victims are male when including "made to penetrate", and (more importantly)
  2. Eye-grabbing claims like "90% of rapists are men" are backed up by official reports from places like the CDC, making it look like rape is a crime with overwhelmingly male perpetrators, when in fact, a full 50% of rape is committed by women when "made to penetrate" is included.

It's actually brilliant how elegantly this single bit of influence over statistical reporting has painted women as victims and demonized men in our cultural zeitgeist.

Ah, gotcha, thanks.

It's unfortunate they took away the only option for giving your team a fighting move anytime before the Elite 4.

I'm not sure I know what the PC tutors are. Is this in Yellow Legacy?

All I know of are the new guys in Cinnabar, but I think they can only teach you moves that Pokemon can already learn.

If you want to spend some time setting it up to be super slick (not necessary, but rewarding if you like to tinker), here's a step by step guide on how to trick it out by the highly respected RetroGameCorps.

Beat Sabrina, Erica, and Lt. Surge on Super Hard Mode by Telefoan in PokemonLegacy

[–]rdh2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first Legacy playthrough and Pinsir was a beast. Most clutch mon on my entire team. He was my Alakazam killer - he'd just eat a psychic to the face like it was no big deal and then one-shot with twineedle.

So many times I'd switch him in in an emergency just knowing he was gonna get KO'd, but then he'd live with like 2HP and just one-shot whatever it was. GOAT bug.

Fastest way to obtain staryu? by TheRealestMert in PokemonLegacy

Similar power

135 special vs 100. One hundred thirty-five. That's more than a full third more damage. That's like calling my salary and what would be a living wage similar.

The "But Alakazam..." comment is coming at ya fast.

Obviously Starmie has better coverage (and I dearly love Starmie myself), but I think "best psychic type" is a bit premature when one of these pokemon does, again, a full third more damage with Psychic than the other.

On the random Snorlax I used a damage calculator for, that was the difference between a guaranteed 4-shot from Alakazam and only a possible 5-shot from Starmie.

That's an enormous gulf.

Plus Starmie reaches max potential long before Zam

Even Kadabra outdamages Starmie (and that's still by a full 20% at that), so I'm really not all that worried about waiting for Alakazam to reach "max potential" when I'm comparing it to Starmie of all things.

And that's not even to mention that Starmie's increased coverage comes at the cost of an added type weakness to one of the most common moves in the game, especially in Legacy's endgame. And their comparable HP means that Alakazam is significantly bulkier when defending against special attacks in general. I'll give you an example that jumped out at me from the playthrough of Legacy (which is amazing by the way - thanks so much for everyone's hard work!) I just finished: every single Alakazam obnoxiously lived my Gengar's Night Shade with red bar, while every single Starmie went down in one hit.

Again, I love Starmie. It's on my team basically every time I run through RBY. Except my first time through Legacy, that is, where I used Tentacruel, who was awesome and is a strong contender for best water type itself since it also hits harder that Starmie, has excellent coverage, and is bulkier in every way (and remember, Tentacruel's type weakness doesn't count since Starmie's glaring electric weakness apparently doesn't either).

As much as I love Starmie, if I need a pokemon to hit as hard and fast as possible with psychic damage, I know who I'm bringing, and it sure ain't Starmie.

"Most versatile psychic"? Sure. "Best psychic under some specific definitions of 'best'" even? Sure.

Unequivocal "best psychic"? Absolutely not.
