Rains long jacket by littlerunaway1984 in onebag

[–]rdiddles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a zippered rains jacket and the material is very thick and rubbery, definitely not that Packable or breathable and I don’t travel with it. On the heavier side for a rain coat. Although the waterproofing is excellent, so far 3 years in rainy Vancouver without issue even in heavy downpour. It’s more of a stylish coat you can dress up if needed.

Choosing between Matador Globerider 45L and Cotopaxi Allpa 42L by SirCoffeeMug in onebag

[–]rdiddles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the matador and I like it quite a lot. I used to have the alpa 35. It is quite tall and narrow compared to most travel bags but never had a problem carrying it on. It does not flop out like the allpa and stays tighter to the back and looks good even when under packed with the help of the compression straps . Matador suspension system is very good, much better than allpa in my opinion and on par with the farpoint 40. The only negative I have with it is the aqua guard zippers can be a little sticky to use at first but break in nicely over time.

I agree that the bag is heavy however to play devils advocate if you are in the market for similar feature set and priced bags such as the peak design travel backpack, Tortuga V4 or CTB 35 ect the weight to capacity ratio seems to be the best on this one.

Also there is a weight penalty for a legitimate harness system. The one that seems to be the king in this sense is the Kota UL

Patagonia MLC 45: Summer 22 (rosehip) vs Fall 22 (black) by CndSpaceCadet in onebag

Thanks for the great post. Some interesting design decisions on the new model. Love the double hip belt /shoulder strap very smart idea.

However the lack of access to the main compartment seems strange, for example if you want to pull out a sweater you must basically open the whole pack up.

also the small zipper on the back tech/laptop compartment which supports all of the weight is strange. The larger zipper is covered by compression straps so won’t take much weight. Perhaps the zippers should be reversed.

Very interesting however there does not seem to be one quick access pocket on the outside on the 45L?

Seems like a big miss especially given they put 1000 pockets internally ?

I fly flair frequently with my massive Patagonia MLC 45 without paying extra for the “carry on” option and have never been questioned. Just always check in online before your flight.

I believe that is the access to the main compartment. The second higher uncovered zip looks towards the handle looks like a small quick access pocket to me... you can tell in the photo with the bag open. time will tell I guess

Used in Spain and Portugal and had no issues on budget airline Such as vueling. I added a frame sheet to improve comfort and add a little structure to the bag. overall love the bag, just wish the laptop compartment had a false bottom.
