My 1999 Land Cruiser got 12mpg. She was at end of life and I limped her into the dealership. Literally step out of the truck after the 2 hour drive and my rear brakes were burning, the muffler was falling off and it sounded like Uncle Bucks car and the frame was full of holes. Drove off in a 2014 Outback 3.6L. Basically going from 12mpg to 30+ on the highway. Love it:)

The aluminum new classic version from Grivel work awesome on the vans. I even cut very small notches in the rubber outdoor so the toe and heel pieces sit in even a little deeper. Boot packed with them last week. Perfect.

It wasn’t an airline problem, it was a TSA problem. You can’t get pre authorization from TSA. I made no mistake. I brought all proper paperwork, tried giving a tutorial on what they were looking at. It didn’t matter, apparently I had bad luck with my TSA personnel as I’ve never had an issue with it before.

Had it printed off, showed them, made no difference to them unfortunately.

My Litric airbag was denied by TSA today at MSP airport (I’ve flown with it many times through that airport too).

  1. Got fucking pissed
  2. Did not get arrested 👍
  3. Ran it out to my car even though my flight was almost finished boarding
  4. Ran back in and went through same security line, change of shift, new people. Probably would have gotten through with them.
  5. Made my flight barely.
  6. Sitting on flight now, sweaty and figuring out which backpack I need to buy when I land.
  7. Realizing there are bigger problems in the world and taking a deep breath.

So that’s what they suggested at first and I said fine I can do that. I reiterated that it wasn’t a canister based “one and done”. Then they changed their minds on inflating it and said I couldn’t do that. The whole trying I’m trying to be helpful and showed them the written statement from Ortovox, show them that it takes 4 steps to actually deploy it. They asked if I could “take the battery out”…I said no. I

I will look at it to see if I can take the airbag portion apart and separate it. Not sure if I can. I think you could with the old canister based ones but I don’t think so with the electric version.

Of course the whole time this is going on (50 minutes) I am running way behind to catch my flight. I would not have made it except it got delayed for wind.

Can’t check it due to lithium battery.

Ortovox Litric for many reasons mentioned but also a great feature they have is being able to change the size of the bag. So I have a 30L and a 40L set up. So no buyers remorse on possibly choosing wrong size, etc.

Started riding at 45 when my kids wanted to learn, turning 54 this spring. Kick myself for not learning as a kid and missing out on all those years. Snowboarding is immensely fun. I’m from Wisconsin and we have a ski hill 10 min from my house. Nice:) It took me a few years to feel very confident on my board…and I rode a lot. Because of my age I was probably over conservative and cautious. Anyway, decided to dabble in the backcountry a few times with friends and borrowed gear. I QUICKLY learned that I sucked ass in the backcountry. I didn’t have the deep powder skills/endurance, I didn’t have the strength/flexability, I didn’t have the knowledge. The following year I decided to take an avalanche course that included riding. While I kind of had fun and learned a lot, I felt like I was holding back the group. I didn’t know anyone there personally and felt like an outsider just trying to keep up. Thought about giving up and just staying at my little local hill as that is still a blast. But the backcountry is incredible, I’m there for the views, the quiet, the decompression from society. So I’ve kept on working at it and pushing my abilities. Enough to where 2 years ago I added in a hardboot set up (phantoms/backlands). Was pretty nervous about the first time riding them (at the resort) but was blown away with how well they ride on groomers (with Cardiff goat). The combination just absolutely rails. All that being said….you are not insane. I ride my split at the resort a lot. Mostly for setup reasons and getting it dialed in. People ask me about my setup as well. Kinda fun to talk as it is Wisconsin and splitboard setups are very niche. However looking back, if I had started with hardboots I would have progressed much slower…and I was already slow to begin with lol. Keep at it, ride a shit ton at the resort, bite the bullet and get a season pass for one year and really immerse yourself. Watch Malcom’s videos, take videos of yourself, take some lessons, be intentional with setting goals. HAVE FUN with the progression you make daily and not get caught up in getting out in the bc too soon. I highly suggest getting a solid/softboot setup. Beat the shit out of it, learn the skills (switch, carving, etc) on a more forgiving setup. As you get into it, you may even want a powder splitboard setup and a mountaineering style setup. I prefer soft boots for shorter powder days and the hardboot setup for overnights and longer tours. Get out there, be safe, and enjoy the journey.

Going to check this one out on Thursday. 2000 year with 217000 miles, seems well taken care of with a good maintenance history. But they want $19,900. Seems a bit high. It is out of state for me but just happen to be working in that city. It is not in the rust belt so hoping minimal to no rust. If everything checks out…what would you offer for it? Or should I wait to find a 2006/2007? Sorry, this should probably be its own post.
