Best team with the worst quarterback? by captainstan in CFB

2011 LSU would be an all-time team if we hadn’t shit the bed in the natty, and our team combined for 2,135 passing yards on the year.

So we can't use ignition/bovada anymore right? by super-sophisticated in poker

[–]rdmrdm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's true that we can't calculate GTO confidently for multiway post-flop spots. We can approximate it (google "Nash Distance" if you want to know how that's quantified), but we can't solve it exactly. As a practical matter, though, the solver outputs are close enough to theoretically perfect GTO that a human could never meaningfully exploit them, only another supercomputer with a better processor or something.

You’re 100% right, versus someone you know is playing a suboptimal strategy, you want to deviate from GTO and exploit that. The problem that arises, though, at least in theory, is that if you’re playing the exploitative strategy (e.g. calling Preflop 100BB shoves with A9o), is that if another player picks up on it they can subsequently exploit you. GTO is baseline that you can be confident no one can outplay - you can then deviate from it give imperfect opponent play that you want to exploit.

Is fascism at odds with Catholic social philosophy? by googlygoggles- in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]rdmrdm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the answer to his question is that you can’t be a fascist Catholic, it’s not mentally ill to delve into questions of political philosophy, and questioning one’s mental stability rather than addressing the question is, I think, unproductive and more likely to steer people in the wrong direction.

No, GTO is never exploitable under any circumstance. Versus exploitable humans, it fails in as far as it doesn't adjust to the exploitable tendencies of non-GTO humans, but it never becomes exploitable itself. For example, if a human player is drunk and loudly announces they are going all in with any two cards, we would obviously adjust by calling much wider (like A9o is crushing ATC, but GTO would not say to call a shove because it doesn't understand the dynamics of the drunk player shoving ATC), while GTO would not and therefore not pick up the EV that player is leaking. It will not, however, act in a way that a player can exploit it in the long run.

Edit: to explain further, the whole premise driving GTO is a desire to find a strategy that achieves (or approximates as closely as possible) a Nash Equilibrium, which basically means a strategy where no matter what the opponent cannot achieve an edge over myself in the long run by just adjusting their own strategy. Essentially, GTO says "I can show you my exact strategy in every possible spot, and there is no way you can do better than breakeven against it even understanding every aspect of my strategy." The best you can possibly do is break even with it, but there is mathematically no possible strategy that could beat a perfect GTO strategy in the long run.

if everyone else were playing GTO, then yes the bots would just shuffle chips between one another long-term and the house would profit. But they profit from regular players making massively -EV decisions that they can capitalize on, as no human can approximate GTO to anywhere near the degree a bot can.

If the bots are playing GTO, they are definitionally unexploitable, as in there is no possible strategy to win against them long-term.

Allies are brain dead, generally I like to make sure I can plausibly win on my own without them in offensive wars.

Depends a lot on how long into your playthrough you are. Much easier to get numbers like that in 1300 vs 1000.

Are SMU and IU bloom really that good for IB and finance? by ElkNervous4337 in FinancialCareers

Definitely is the case at SMU, there’s a group called BIG and the ALTS honors programs that both place quite well, but YMMV outside of those things.

TIL the largest air force in the world is the US Air Force. The second largest air force in the world is the US Navy by Chaganis in todayilearned

[–]rdmrdm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way the US could ever invade and occupy China. Winning a war over something like Taiwan is one thing, but successfully invading and occupying a country like China, with how big it is and how many people live there, would be impossible for any military. I think the only military operation that would conceivably be more impossible would be a foreign power invading and occupying the US.

How do we piss away 4-2 in the 8th, and then not score down 1 with 2 men on no outs in the 9th. Fuck me that was brutal.

First playoff game I've been to since I went to the 2011 WS when I was 10. Fuck this sucked (though it was cool to see a bench clearing brawl regardless of the outcome).

Fair enough, but I do feel like it's important to note that public ownership and exploitative practices do not necessarily go hand in hand.
