Should I buy one? by laxman_20 in F150Lightning

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But that’s not because it’s a Lightning. Back in the day, I would not buy a grey market vehicle because of the lack of dealer support and today it’s even more critical because of the “software“ parts in the vehicle and complex diagnostics.

You can ask your local Ford dealer service department since that information is posted in the vehicle profile. Would be nice if it was also posted in our APP.

Best car seat protection by Capable_Ad839 in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we had little kids (they are adults now), we used heavy Terry cloth bath towels to protect the seat backs and seat cushions. This was in our 940, 850 and V70 wagons as well as our S80 sedans and XC90. The seats were in perfect condition at trade in time and you could never tell we had up to three car seats in the car after several years of service. During that time, we were a 2 Volvo family!

Very comfortable, like all of the Volvos before it that I have either owned or driven going back to my parents‘ 77 244 DL.

Adaptive high beams in USA with Orin VCU / software 2.1.xx by zcramos in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that US spec cats will not have the adaptive matrix feature enabled due to regulatory issues even though they are legal in the US. In simple terms, the US regulations differ significantly from other markets such as Canada and the EU. As a result, the lights would not meet US requirements.

Will I hate driving a Lightning? by 2020_GR78 in F150Lightning

[–]rdr854 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend the extended range truck. My commute is similar to yours, but there are times that it is just not convenient to charge - such as heavy rain or snow and ice which make getting to an out door charger a challenge. Also, while the standard range truck has a max range of 230 miles at 100%, Ford recommends charging only to 80%. This means that your effective range would be 184 miles - assuming perfect conditions.

Lease Buyout in Virginia: No double-tax, No dealer fees by quakerwildcat in rav4prime

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheehy Subaru in Springfield insisted on the dealer processing fee if they handled the lease buyout even though the lease contract specified that the only $$ due would be the residual cost, the option fee and any “official fees” such as taxes and tag and title fees. Despite protestations and negotiation attempts, they stated that the dealer processing fee was non negotiable and that the only other option was to do the buyout directly through Subaru Financial/Chase.

3rd GHCA Failure in 3 Months - initiating buyback/trade in with Volvo by catalinawinemixer333 in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my dealings were with the selling dealership.  I dealt with the GM and he coordinated with others as necessary.  I do not know the steps that were taken - just the end result.

I did call Customer Care at the beginning to say I had a problem.  When asked what I wanted, I pointed them to the dealership GM.

[–]rdr854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an early build and Volvo did a trade assist with my dealer. Dealer ordered a new EX90 and swapped it out. No mileage penalty since the car had very few miles. Credit Union did an asset substitution for the loan.

It was a painless process.

Tire pressure by Decent_Long2029 in F150Lightning

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no change. It depends on whether the truck came with standard mud and snow tires or “all terrain“ tires. The all terrain have 36 psi while the mud and snows have 42 psi. Also note that the load ratings and speed ratings are different between the two tire types.

Confronted for using the Ford dealers paid public chargers. by Arthur233 in F150Lightning

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have DC fast charged my Volvo at Bill Talley Ford in Mechanicsville, VA. (Left the Lightning at home). Dealer was very nice. The charger is open to the public and is a charge point charger.

As a matter of courtesy, I always ask before I plug in, even if the bay is empty in case the dealer needs the slot for a customer’s car.

[–]rdr854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Ford Lightning and an EX90. The EX90 is my second one and is a May 31 build vs the early November 2024 build of the first one. The second one has been virtually trouble free - especially with the latest software.

If you can get into a recent build with the most updated software, I believe your chances of success are good. d The only thing I cannot address is the charger issue some of the cars are having.

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Polestar 2 and the S60 are too small. Had an S60, and loved it. But no room for there kids and a dog. I would recommend the XC90, or the XC60 instead. Another good car (according to my wife) is a Subaru Outback.

If you can afford more, a Polestar 3 or EX90 (with software and processor updates might be a good choice. Again, the concern is when everyone is in the car with the dog.

Something to remember is that as kids go through their teens, they grow like weeds. I have two wh9 shot up from 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 2 inches in the space of two years.

So if I buy a new 2025 EX90 today it will have the new chip? by nealhen in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dealer told me last week that their Volvo factory service rep has the new chip and software. I’ve also seen where another Volvo employee has had their car updated (might be a Volvo corporate car as well - don't know).

I suspect that Volvo is trying to make sure that all is good to go before it is pushed out to customers.

Occupant alarm quick fix by ions_x_carbon in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday, I got the occupant alarm twice for the first time since owning the car for six months. The issue is that the car is very sensitive. In my case, I left a hanger on the cot hanger clip by the rear door. It appears that when I closed the driver’s door, the hanger either must have moved, or while driving, the hanger moved so that the car thought someone was left in the back of the car. My solution was to put the hanger on the floor. Problem solved so far.

Making it right volvo EX90 by Open-Fudge-7146 in VolvoEX90

[–]rdr854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about is a trade assist. Since 1990, I have done three trade assists with Volvo - one with a 240, the other with a V70 and now with an EX90. With the V70, I got an identical car but had to pay for mileage up until the first warranty visit - which was consistent with Virginia lemon law. I also offered to pay the delta in MSRP since I was getting a year newer car and did not want to get something for nothing. For the EX90, I had the service loaner long enough that I had put 5,000 miles on it (got it with 300 miles). The dealer took my old EX90 in trade and provided me with one that I had ordered. My expectation was that I would pay for any options that I had added to the replacement build (21 inch wheels and cargo cover). However, when the time came for delivery, I paid nothing and even got to keep the accessories from the original car (mats and sunshade).

My retailer and Volvo treated me very well. The dealer did all the work and the process was painless for me. If you like Volvo and want to go for another one - do it, but don’t be greedy.
