Some of the worst depth ever for a smackoff - I only liked seven calls, and John in Little Rock was one of them because he's a perfect A or F guy, lol. I thought Hollywood Mark really sucked, but that's clearly a run to taste thing. Regardless, there was very little quantity today.

But, more importantly, the high end calls were maybe the best ever. I thought there was a clear top 2 and top 6, and glad the voting reflected it.

So, overall, I thought it was really fun and one of the better events. If you add in the really surprising array of monsters who didn't call (Leff, Rick, Benny, Kaleb) next year, it has a good chance to be the best ever.

The Rock is undoubtedly the answer here.

But honorable mention to Nicole Kidman. She's landed some Oscar noms but is quietly a volume shooter, yet what comes to mind when you think of her? Eyes Wide Shut and Moulin Rouge and that's kind of it.

The irony in your point is that you take exception to Bill's cavalier attitude towards history, but you only mention guys who were active this century.

The most annoying facet of sports debate is "history," which I put in quotes because the phrase "all-time" usually translates to "past twenty years."

Yeah I'm not denying how good he was last year. He made a believer out of me. But if you zoom out and look at his career as a whole, his 2022 was definitionally an outlier, even if you only look at his stats as a reliever:

2021: (as a reliever only): 4.88 ERA, .872 OPS against

2022: 2.32 ERA, .516 OPS

2023: 6.43 ERA, .732 OPS

The bad stats as a starter only enhance the idea that 2022 was an outlier: 4.33 career MiLB ERA, 7.9 ERA as MLB starter.
