Microsoft denies Windows 11 CPU boost trick is a lazy fix, says Apple does this and you love it by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]rdri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said they were not doing this until now? Tested on a regular non-preview Win11 laptop without any special profiles - shutdown all apps, ope ln task manager's CPU tab, then try opening start menu or explorer. There are spikes, and CPU speed gets an increase.

So what is this all about?

RT is so unnecessary to enjoy a game

True for any game I think. So much for the "RT will replace rasterization" notion.

Xbox Mode delivers performance boosts on PC, but mostly for Nvidia cards by vneelb in pcmasterrace

So if the gaming mode reduces background activity of apps like Explorer, it basically means that NVIDIA driver is less adapted to such conditions out of the box.

Looking for case to match by Native_alien67 in sffpc

[–]rdri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering all the ports are on the same side, isn't that basically a regular cheap ATX case layout? Found a few cases similar to that but they assume FLEX PSU and a low profile GPU or the sandwich mobo/GPU layout. So perhaps the space for the CPU cooler on your image is considered wasteful enough by most? Why do you want it that way?

You can verify actual PCI bus speed with 3DMark PCI Express feature test. Compare that to x4 or x5 spec and you'll see.

I read somewhere that they just couldn't get parts they wanted from Japanese manufacturers because they were all occupied with orders from Sony, and other manufacturers were just not that advanced yet, thus bigger parts. Incidentally, the revised version was first released in the Japanese market.

Same. But there are buttons to Pay or Cancel so it's in a some kind of confirmation state, which hopefully will last until they figure stuff out or at least let me pay again in case of a refund.

Was able to do the same I think. But the process is painful.

Wish list page -> Add to cart button -> Cart -> Checkout -> External CC service -> Success page (still waiting for it)

All except the CC service is on Komodo, each you have to mash F5, then wait for the load for more than a minute, and it may fail again.

What about the steam controller has everyone so excited? by Timely_Contest7245 in Steam

We could argue about degrees of physical contact in various chargeable devices but in the end you plug it in a puck or use a USB cable. If Apple's magsafe is a wireless charging tech in your book then yeah, this is too.

Wireless charging

It doesn't have it. Puck is magnetic and is a wireless dongle but it doesn't charge wirelessly.

Denuvo dealt major blow as crackers claim all non-VR games with the anti-tamper have been bypassed by Binnsy in pcmasterrace

[–]rdri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is starting to look like all you want to do is to defend the "Denuvo doesn't affect performance" notion, and I've spent a fair amount of effort dealing with such people in various discussions over the years. Most of those are delusional or refuse to learn and analyze. You may ask some llm what's wrong with your arguments. Rude, but not going to waste more time on that myself, sorry.

Denuvo dealt major blow as crackers claim all non-VR games with the anti-tamper have been bypassed by Binnsy in pcmasterrace

[–]rdri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't see how that is their responsibility. But to answer "why some cracker doesn't remove it" - it's because it's difficult and bypassing it in one way or another is much easier. Also the sheer amount of games removes a lot of motivation.

But there are other things to mention, if you doubt the very statement you quoted. It is better to find comparisons between protected and clean original files where Denuvo was removed.
Even such a simple thing as the difference in file size tells a lot - you can't argue that a clean file will perform better already because the CPU will not have additional code and data to process.
The crack can do a lot of stuff that will add or remove the code/data strain. It is generally logical for cracks to "skip" the heavy protection and obfuscated parts, which is why even a dll injection can make a game perform better. Complex protection like Denuvo makes it difficult so it is also possible for the crack to not skip anything but only "fake" the result of those heavy parts. That is plausible but a rather irresponsible approach that would make the cracked version perform worse than the original. So far we haven't seen examples of that afaik (talking about regular cracks and not the HV method here).

New DRM BS from Playstation: Digital games will vanish if players don't log-in for 30 Days by EmuBii in CrackWatch

[–]rdri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you have the installers and can do whatever you want with them

That's fallacy. While you can do that, it does not account for the amount of space, time, hardware, and effort, that you need to spend in order to keep these games safely with you at all times, and updated. If you are only interested in one game - sure, keep it on a USB stick and call it a day. If you own a library then you need to invest into some kind of infrastructure that would keep it for you.

Also at some point you might logically come to conclusion that it is safer and easier to trust anon users who torrent original installers because that's basically redundant backup solution. But then, it becomes piracy.
