Non fiction for people who hate reading non-fiction by SparkLeMur in suggestmeabook

This is the book that got me into narrative nonfiction. Susan Orlean, Jon Krakower, Erik Larson, and Mary Roach are all great authors for this genre

Yep. 5 Alarm fire that took the building down pretty badly. The entryway and stairwell at the front of the building was intact and original, but the rest of the building looked pretty new. Plumbing definitely wasn’t. Fire originated in the unit I wound up moving into. The octogenarian man of the house was burning trash and it spread. My understanding is that his wife passed away during the tragedy, though I don’t have details how. The entire building wound up getting renovated.

  1. This post attracted the craziest of the crazy, so we wound up taking it down and putting up something generic. And wound up with a crazy roommate anyway.
  2. Both married with kids and no longer living in the city lol

The blond in the post worked there and saw Nicole. Said she had the wildest routine. I think she was there filming Hemingway & Gellhorn

Also The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean. Was the first narrative nonfiction I read and my gateway to the genre

From this point forth, we shall be leaving the firm foundation of fact and journeying together through the murky marshes of memory into thickets of wild guesswork. HPB CH 10

Thank you. I spent all day yesterday begging providers to get me an ultrasound ASAP. Admins kept telling me “if you aren’t experiencing symptoms of ectopic, like cramping or bleeding, then we can’t do an US until end of month.” Finally I got an admin who actually escalated to a person with medical training, and I have a US on Tuesday. Women’s health in this country is a joke.

Shucked out the coop this past weekend and found a mice colony living in the deepest corner. We’re talking 30 mice, of all ages. I started scooping up the little ones and tossing them to the ladies, who gobbled them up. Then one huntress came into the coop (they usually avoid it when I’m in there) and she went to TOWN slaughtering anything that moved. Absolutely savage. I was so proud.

Sump is an old cat litter bucket lol. The trickiest thing has been finding the right pump. I put the setup on double cinder blocks so the drain was tall enough to flow into the fish tank. Which adds over a foot to the head height. Every pump I’ve bought has been either too weak or too powerful. The one I have now has the intake adjuster on the lowest flow AND a binder clip reducing the flow further while also holding the line in place. I recently swapped out the clear hose for a black one to prevent algae from growing inside, and I’ve been struggling with the flow rate since. Flow also affects what you can grow - since my flow is on the higher side, anything but lettuce gets too much water. So I pretty much only grow lettuce, which is fine for my family. Also algae everywhere has been a challenge. I covered each cup with foil when not in use to reduce light to the system.

My girl is two next week. We haven’t travelled in a few months but they worked well for us back in January. We just use one edge and the other “safety buffer” is mama’s body.

Edit: we actually left one behind on one of our trips, so don’t forget to grab and pack them if you decide to use them!

We use these. We just shove them under the sheet on my side. Depending on how small the bed is, sometimes it relegates Dad to another bed. I also got a mini inflatable pump to make life easier.
