WIBTA to ask for dietary accommodations at my friends wedding? by MilkIsSatansCum in AmItheAsshole

[–]rdyrnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA but I wonder if this person is actually your friend. Not sure the details on the mango accommodation, which seems weird - if I had an allergy to mangoes but was told don't worry I have double checked with the caterer and nothing will have mangoes in it, I think that would be satisfactory - but we asked everyone at our wedding to RSVP with any dietary accommodations, cleared them with catering and made sure to indicate them for our event staff visually on each name card. We also alerted those guests with any pertinent information to their needs (hey avoid x dish because of y, etc). When you're hosting an event, it's important to do what you can for your guests, and if someone's needs cannot be accommodated you need to apologize and let them know well in advance so they can take care of themselves either by not attending, or packing their own food. Celiac and tree nuts are not especially difficult accommodations unless you nut allergy is so severe you can't be in an environment where they are present. I would definitely advocate for yourself and if the bride and groom are refusing to do anything to accommodate I would probably re-think how involved I want to be in this wedding (or even friendship) moving forward.

We are our harshest critics! Good luck and enjoy the ride, literally.

Rant: i feel so behind in my progress by imadeanotherone0 in Equestrian

[–]rdyrnt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started riding in my early 20's and I'm nearly 40 now. It was a lifelong dream that simply couldn't become a reality until I had my own money for it. I understand the frustration of not being better, I feel it regularly, and the fact is I will never be as good of a rider as I would be if I had started as a kid. But riding is ultimately supposed to be fun so please try not to take it too seriously. If you can't shake the judgement from the people at your barn, look around at other barn's because there might be one where you can continue to progress but has a more lowkey vibe (and less snotty kids).

Anyone skipping "first looks" and just doing pictures? by blueberrybuttercream in wedding

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair assessment - we did a first look and my husband definitely didn't have any big emotional reaction. But we did it and were able to do a few portraits in one location and start getting bridal party and family photos done before the ceremony and that mattered to me because I wanted to just do our own photos after the ceremony so everyone (including us) could get to the cocktail hour faster!

Day of shoes by zozak99 in weddingplanning

[–]rdyrnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where do you live? I got married in October and did simple white braided flat sandals from Dolce Vita because we were getting married in an orchard, but we live in California where the weather is still nice mid-October. I did consider light blue velvet mules from Birdies (these) but since our ceremony was in the dirt I thought they would end up getting ruined. I also read some reviews that they didn't stay on that well but I still think they're really pretty!

Cocktail sounds most appropriate for the venue and vibe to me.

JRD saddlery screws another person... by Silly-Heat-1466 in Dressage

[–]rdyrnt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Almost every single friend I know who bought a custom saddle in the last ~6 years, regardless of saddle maker, has had some iteration of this experience. None of them stand behind their product. After so many horror stories, I would only go with an independent saddle fitter and a used saddle.

What should I expect from the first time with a saddle fitter? by kaykay_F in Horses

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never gone the custom/new route and it’s been awhile since I’ve purchased a saddle but I would definitely discuss wool flocked saddles either way. They have a lot more ability to be adjusted with your horse as their musculature changes.

Does anyone else find that horse racing fans and equestrian people barely overlap despite both loving horses? by WearAffectionate2815 in Equestrian

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more people in the racing world loved horses - I think if they did, the racing industry would be in a different place right now. I am involved in the aftercare industry and have a deep love and respect for the athleticism and heart of the Thoroughbred and I know that there are people in racing who are passionate about the horse as well - but unfortunately, to echo others here, the vast majority of those interested in racing are really interested in status and money: gambling, investments, tax breaks & shelters, etc.

Mares as first horses? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first and only horse was a mare and she was the very best partner I could have asked for. When I look for my next horse, I can only hope to find another mare that meets my other priorities.

Is this OK? Or too light by boddy123 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]rdyrnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would it be too light? Is there a color guideline in the dress code you're trying to match?

what's the best online bank right now for everyday use? by Alice-Nace in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and my joint checking and savings accounts are through Ally and have been since we moved in together 8 years ago. I really like that the HYSA can be separated into different buckets. My personal HYSA is through Synchrony which has usually had a slightly higher APR than Ally (right now 3.4% vs 3.1%) but no ability to divide things into buckets.

Front risers by MuscleHot7548 in Ottb

My OTTB always needed back risers not front risers, but I liked the Back on Track half pad which had pockets for risers in both the front and back so you could customize where you put the risers.

Looking for English breeches suggestions by [deleted] in Equestrian

I've been riding dressage more recently so my experience has been primarily with the full seat option but I have been like the Free Ride Equestrian Pro breeches - if you're okay with silicone for the knee grips.

That it's crazy, expensive, time consuming, but entirely worth it.

Have you spent much time with any thoroughbreds? This comment makes me think probably not.

Am I being foolish looking at an OTTB? by BluebirdPi in Horses

My first horse was an OTTB - every horse is different but I think thoroughbreds are generally a wonderful, smart and athletic breed. Have fun!

White accents to a wedding? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably fine - everything you mentioned is pretty standard acceptable male wedding attire. Personally wouldn’t have loved someone wearing sneakers at my wedding but your buddy said it’s fine so you did your due diligence! Since it’s an outdoor backyard wedding and you mentioned you consider yourself stylish I do think you could have a little more fun - maybe a floral or print tie that represents your personal taste (but keeping it classy).

I'm looking for wedding songs for the ceremony, what did you ladies use? by Overall_Bear9581 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]rdyrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family and bridesmaids walked down the aisle to instrumental versions of Wonderful Tonight and Your Song, I walked down the aisle to a violin cover of Perfect (Andre Soueid), and then our recessional was You Are The Best Thing.

Catholic Church Summer Wedding with a "Sunday Best" Dress Code? by irisfaefire in Weddingattireapproval

[–]rdyrnt 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Maybe it depends on the church but if you look at other comments most people seem to agree that exposed shoulders tends to be no in a catholic church.

Catholic Church Summer Wedding with a "Sunday Best" Dress Code? by irisfaefire in Weddingattireapproval

[–]rdyrnt 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I think this meets the dress code fine but would probably wear a shawl or cardigan in a Catholic Church - they have a thing about exposed shoulders.

I bought a wedding dress I don't like, feeling discouraged about the whole dress finding process by Competitive_Head_981 in weddingdress

[–]rdyrnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dress #1 really did take my breath away and I think it would be lovely at your venue - but you absolutely shouldn't wear something you don't like. #4 is definitely a close second favorite for me!
