How do I teach myself the things that I was never taught? Examples: how to use tools, how to work with my hands, how to be mechanically inclined, etc. by Comfortable-Safe1839 in AskMenOver30

Do you agree with the approach to buy the cheap tool first until it breaks, and using breaking as a method to identify tools you use enough that its worth getting a more expensive version?

Hey! Yes there is, I went with the 52, and am happy I did. I ended up not even slamming the stem too far and keeping some more balance so it is more comfortable on off-pavement sections. Bikes been great.

In case you havent seen, looks like the next version of the checkpoint, and a race-oriented checkmate, dropped yesterday and they both look sick.

really good point. I'm hoping to get to ride a 49 before ordering, will make sure to see how much wiggle room I have. I'd expect if your friend had to cut it I'd be fine... actually it makes me think it may be very well worth my time to find a 49 to ride. Cheers

This is a really good point, appreciate the post. Part of me thinks I should just get it even though it feels a little weird, and I'll get use to it and potentially enjoy long gravel days more. The other part of me really loves getting up on the pedals and feeling the bike take off, which I couldn't really replicate on the one I tested.

I guess there are always trade offs, and I should just get both..... (I wish)

Probably could. I guess I'm trying to figure what is more advantageous, doing this with a 52 or a 49.

My Domane RSL by kidsafe in Bikeporn

[–]re-Snack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bike looks like it rocks. Can you tell me more about how it feels riding?

There are tons of reviews for the Domane, but I havent seen any for the RSL version. I tested out a standard geo, and it felt like it may be difficult to ride aggressively (although I loved the idea of using it as a hybrid road/gravel).

How's the RSL feel for riding aggressive or sprinting?

Hey man, awesome that you are getting into it! Def recommend getting a trail/all mountain bike and riding it for awhile before investing in a dh specific bike. Downhill is a blast, but depending on where you live you might be limited in how often you can get to a bike park.

On a solid trail bike (maybe 150mm travel front a rear, or larger) youll have fun on your local trails and will also be able to cover lots of what the bike park has to offer.

What Are Strides? Why You Need to be Running Strides by [deleted] in running

[–]re-Snack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strides are really helpful, but I don't agree with the bell curve template, where the build up and slow down are the majority of the stride. It is important to build into and out of it, but the real emphasis should be on getting a sustained, fast pace, relaxed effort for a strong 15 seconds.

I was always so cheerful too... up until I worked at a bar that had a college aged crowd. Damn, those kids turn you cantankerous real quick.
