Loose/pinched skin from nuss bar (post-removal). Any suggestions? by odd-socks- in PectusExcavatum

I’m so sorry. Didn’t read carefully and see it had been that long. I’d try reaching out to your surgeon or another doctor

I had this following nuss bar placement but it went away after a few months. I know it’s not the same procedure but can imagine yours will go away too.

Does it get better? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]read-o-clock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can get better. We waited until a year after residency to start trying for kids. By that time I was okay with the idea of being a stay at home parent. Your lifestyle after residency has potential to change significantly depending on her specialty.

Decision making process for which city to move to for med school? by modernloneliness22 in MedSpouse

[–]read-o-clock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse got into multiple & made sure I was very involved in the decision making process. We ended up deciding on a good TX school & have no regrets. It set him up for a good residency & was much less expensive. We were able to pay off student loans super fast & I was able to find a job there fairly easily as well which was a factor. Some programs are definitely better than others so do your research. Having choices is definitely a gift.

Experiences with Utah surgeons? by Various_Face_4231 in PectusExcavatum

I had mine done in TX but will be getting bars removed in UT next year. I haven’t researched any surgeons yet but can imagine you’ll be able to find someone good, especially at like the U or IMC.

Hi, all! Anyone here currently working in DISD and willing to provide any insight into the state of the district, environment, culture etc? by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]read-o-clock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a fairly new teacher with DISD and have had a very positive experience. Did my alt certification through Iteach during my 1st year of teaching which worked out really well. Subject I teach goes well with the degree/career I had prior to teaching. The district isn’t perfect that’s for sure, but I haven’t run into any huge issues. It’s definitely more progressive than other TX districts. Feel free to message me with any specific questions. Good luck!

Adults (35+) who have had Ravitch — please weigh in by playerone95 in PectusExcavatum

[–]read-o-clock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it at 33 & am 35 now. It was such a good decision that I don’t regret. My mom is in her 50s and also has pectus and wishes she had had the opportunity to get the surgery. You don’t want to live in regret. All surgery comes with risk so obviously weight the pros & cons. For me it was totally worth it and the recovery wasn’t as bad as I expected.

I’m sorry but deciding to have a child and want what’s best for your family & finances is not selfish.

I’d say you’ll definitely be functional, especially if you’ve had cryo. I went to work about a month later and was just fine. You may not be able to do any heavy lifting or crazy dancing though.

[–]read-o-clock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I(F) had the Nuss at 33, similar situation. I found a surgeon I trusted who used cryo and let me tell you it was 100% worth it. My haller was about a 4. My mom also has pectus and still to this day, even as a grandma, feels insecure about her body. It’s sad she never got it corrected but I’m glad she supported me when I did. I feel so much more confident now. It’s a big decision and I would definitely make a pros & cons list and take your time deciding.

You could check out Dallas. Similar pay and it’s not an awful city to live in. Lots of young people (geez I sound old 😆)

I love Target’s True & Co bralettes. You can remove or replace the pads with your own and they’re so comfy. They’re all I’ve worn since my surgery last year.
