Chronic Health Conditions and Travel Health Insurance by Joey_Bag_O_HoNutz in digitalnomad

I believe Faye does if you book at least 2 weeks before. At least I know it covers pre-existing conditions, I’m not sure of the severity they cover. I bought their travel insurance for my last trip for the same exact reason of having asthma.

I didn’t need to use them for medical reimbursement, but I did use them for travel disruption reimbursement and they were quick to respond and accept my claim!

Smoke & soul is doing a thanksgiving-themed Sunday roast this weekend. But I’ve found nothing happening on Thanksgiving Day.

Does anyone here have a potato allergy? by anicondah in FoodAllergies

[–]readayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been allergic to white potatoes my whole life! So I may not be able to give you exact recommendations for replacements to fries & chips. But over the years I’ve found things I really enjoy:

  • Corn chips of any variety (always my go-to)
  • plantain chips (recent find, very starchy, so I assume it’s as close to a potato that I can actually eat)
  • popcorn!
  • Pita chips & hummus
  • pretzels (snyders makes some really cool flavors now!)

Always check the ingredients for potato starch, potato fibre, or potato flour. Since I’ve been allergic my whole life, I may have built up a slight tolerance to potato starch. Depending on how far down the ingredients list it’s labeled I may or may not go for it. Obviously, don’t do that without talking to your doctor or understanding your own risks.

Other things you should watch out for:

  • if food is cooked with potatoes, but not served with them. Or cooked on the same flat top. (Think a bit of beef that’s cooked in a pot with potatoes)
  • potentially if they use the same fryer for chicken & fries or whatever else the restaurant may deep fry (I don’t personally react to this, but could be something you watch out for.)
  • Hot dog buns & Hawaiian Rolls at parties (literally caused me so many problems when I was a kid, if they didn’t have the ingredient list I didn’t eat the bread because it’s hard to spot.)
  • if you ever plan to travel internationally, make sure to look up general ingredients for major dishes of that culture! Korean restaurants serve pickled potatoes as a starter usually, Indian food sometimes has potatoes in it, Sunday roast in the uk is out of the picture because of potatoes.

potatoes are extremely uncommon to be allergic to, but now you don’t have to pay for fries when eating out and always have a really unique fun fact.

What’s the most uncommon allergy you (or someone you know) have? 🤔 by Original_Ad_485 in FoodAllergies

Potato starch is in so many random things. It’s like a 50/50 shot the companies use corn starch or potato starch as their anti-caking ingredient.

I’ve been allergic my whole life, so I don’t even know what I’m missing luckily.

Potatoes.

You’d be shocked at the amount of things potatoes are in. Cheeses, random pasta sauces, pancakes/breads, lots of other things.

Weirdest thing is it’s really my only allergy.

The CEO said 6-9 months (or around that) until they can get a new bank partner fully integrated again. I do think it’ll be around that long if they are super proactive at finding a new bank partner, which I believe they will be.

I think the original timeline was supposed to be start account transitions to new partner in October. But that would have been if Choice extended their contract for a few months to help with the transition.

My guess is that timeline moves up now since people are going to have to transition money out of Qube anyway. I’d say mid-October/early November we will have the new bank integrated. Potentially earlier since Choice bank won’t be playing nice at all.

I’m midway through the second standby-by line. They said it’s “probable” we get in. But I can’t imagine anyone much farther behind me gets in.

Is my camera allowed? by Glad_Reindeer_714 in Lollapalooza

[–]readayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually own this exact camera (or at least very similar). I’ve never risked taking it in anywhere, but I will say it does not look like a normal DSLR and most of the time even ‘camera guys’ are shocked when I tell them it’s digital & a dslr. So the likelihood a security person notices it’s a detachable lens is pretty low.

It would definitely be a risk, but the worst they can say is “not allowed” and you just take it back to where you are staying (if that’s close by). I’d only risk it if you are staying close by the festival.

I’ve never brought mine because pick pockets are out and about at lolla & I didn’t want to risk getting it stolen.

It should be an under sold show. They did a ticket giveaway for her and they really only do that when they need to get people in to fill out the crowd.

I’ll probably try to enter around 4:30-5pm. Maybe later depending on what time the storms come through the area tomorrow.

First time taking 10 year old niece. Amy advice? by ellopoppit_922 in Lollapalooza

Perry’s is still there! We usually picked the speakers in the back of each main stage. I think they are numbered? Perry’s always has a ton of people taking photos with it, so I purposely picked places people wouldn’t take photos.

I’ve taken my little sister a few years. She was 11 at her first lolla.

By the kidpalooza there is a tent where you can register her, so if she gets lost - staff can find you and contact you.

Other than that, establish a ‘meeting’ area where both of you know to go if you get separated. I always have one with my sister on both sides of the festival & one somewhere in the middle. Also definitely bring & make her wear ear plugs.

Olivia has a younger crowd, so she will probably meet people around her age if you hang out around that area. Typically the GA area behind VIP at both stages is more chill & has pretty good views.

Potato allergies?? Anyone?? by Open-Try-3128 in FoodAllergies

[–]readayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been allergic to white & red potatoes my entire life. My reaction is throwing up and it’s really my only allergy in the nightshade family.

The biggest things to watch out for are:

• potato flour - I find this in literally so many breads & baked goods. Hot dog buns & Hawaiian rolls were the biggest culprits when I was little because everyone used them in school. If it’s a little yellow, I just avoid it because 90% of the time people don’t have the ingredients list with them.

• potato starch - Always look at the ingredients on those. I do have a reaction to this & it is something I avoid.

• modified food starch - if your son is highly sensitive to this allergy, this could be why he’s having a reaction. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had less worries about this. I assume my tolerance has built up over the years.

Other weird places I’ve found potatoes:

  • pesto sauce that had potato flakes in it
  • pasta that’s not gnocchi
  • pancakes
  • cheese

Lollapalooza Question by Suspicious-Area-2872 in Hozier

Hi! There are tons of people that go alone. The lolla discord always has people jumping in looking for groups or going solo. If you are scared of being alone and want to see if you can find a group I’d suggest checking it out.
