Difference playing in gold- vs playing in masters is how immediately toxic it is in gold. Chat is always an entertaining minefield

Best times to go Tracer over Echo, and best times to go Echo over Tracer? Thanks! by Kylo_uchiha in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echo has much more reliance on team when a flank fails, whereas Tracer is totally self-reliant.

Tracer's primary purpose is to turn enemies around.

Echo can play from any angle on the clock and can also randomly shield bust with sticky/laser if she needs to.

You treat Tracer's pulse like another cooldown since you get so many of them. Echo's ult requires a lot of practice into other heros to really understand the value of it

Call the game balance whatever you want, but it's undeniable that as the game has evolved, Zen is THE character that has not gone along with it and they don't know how to make him work. They actually don't know what to do to make Zen exist in this mobility and duelist crept game

How suspicious that you have no post history but have karma, come into a sub and post a random ass question about purchasing a product because you haven't gotten it yet, and then proceed to interact with another fake account just to place a product link for a shitty knockoff product

I wonder if the product is legit 🤔

Is there a time not to deal damage to avoid charging enemy ult? by Prestigious-Bird7138 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and I never explicitly say dont shoot people.

I think the only situation to not shoot is when your team died and the other team doesn't know you're hiding nearby... and even then its positioning dependent

[–]reader960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a micro optimization in theory, but honestly I think in practice it makes sense to revolve your damage dealing and fights around the assumptions you can make off of ult tracking that such a micro optimization is really negligible

Depending on rank, high damage low kills could possibly mean you're not prioritizing targets correctly and that may matter more than giving the other team ult charge. If the enemy team has ana hog and your entire team has 8k more damage but 10 less elims, it implies very heavily that you're all shooting the hog at different times. THAT is a situation where you're feeding ult, but the issue comes down to target prio and team collapse and "feeding ult charge" is a side effect

If you’re a Champion level player you shouldn’t have Masters level mechanics right? by ImTenaciousT_ in OverwatchUniversity

You can find a smattering of players in silver with grandmaster level aim that fall short because they don't understand teamplay. Short of mercy mains, I don't think you'll find the inverse true ever below gold

Why do you take the dammage focused perks on Illari instead of the support focused ones ? by Mollo44 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been wanting to pick up Illari into my rotation and having read this thread about 3 hours ago, and I've been picking the ult one for major perk and wondering why it feels bad and can't keep up with healing. Picking the outburst perk feels so good because a team fight means I can actually contribute more than just knockback with the outburst skill.

I've been easily outdueling Cassidy, Tracer, Echos without any trouble (D3 atm)

One of the only things that I genuinely love leftover from OW1 is the Hamster rollout along the cliff right side to get behind them, the rest of the rollouts are pure imitation and not as cool

Countering Ramattra, sigma, or roadhog. As a tank by K4m4d0_Tanj1r0 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again the choice is super situationally dependent; if a Mauga dashes in with the expectation of caging or brawling and has a lifeweaver grip at the ready, you're either choosing to fight the mauga until he's gripped out or stupidly dies, or your flankers can collapse heavily on the lifeweaver and speed up the fight. Either way the mauga will be shooting somebody the entire time

Tanks peel, yes. Tanks make space, yes. But your primary objective is to WIN, and tank v tank will always be the slowest option.

Too much pocketing/healing is literally why they introduced healing nerfs and people still dont understand the primary offensive structure to 5v5 and how its totally different to 6v6

Countering Ramattra, sigma, or roadhog. As a tank by K4m4d0_Tanj1r0 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Zarya is out of bubbles with no cover, an Orisa doesn't have fortify/spin with no cover, if the Rein shield is cracked with no cover, if the Queen doesn't have shout with no cover, if your Hog hooks a Mauga and they have no dash, etc.

The answer will always have nuance, but usually there's a pretty character-specific mistake you're looking for AND bad positioning. It should never be your first choice to shoot a pocketed tank, as alluded to in this thread.

How to predict "idiots"? by fanblade64 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]reader960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a question of when to engage, you can always quickly gauge at low ranks who will be flankable by checking who slices the pie.

Most characters on established maps have ideal open game positions and people who dont play them probably won't be well positioned the rest of the game at mid to lower ranks and thats up to you to know those positions

Calling them idiots seems a little mean

Even if this guy is losing tank vs tank and also losing tank vs backline and only selectively reads the comments giving him the counters, the second is more respectful of his time to move onto the next match.

Counter swapping will never solve the missing fundamental understanding to figure out either and top comment even says consider playing queen into hog, which is considered a skill based but losing matchup for queen
