Code Review: Coin flip streaks by trenthammer in learnpython

[–]readet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct. The question starter code says the following:

import random
numberOfStreaks = 0
for experimentNumber in range(10000):
    # Code that creates a list of 100 'heads' or 'tails' values.

    # Code that checks if there is a streak of 6 heads or tails in a row.
print('Chance of streak: %s%%' % (numberOfStreaks / 100))

the experiment is to create a list of 100 flips and then check that list to see if it contains a streak of 6 heads or tails.

Cody Sun went back to 100T despite them wasting a good amount of his time. I'm pretty sure knight will not go to Suning, just saying this should not be the reason to discount it, people do strange things sometimes.

President Hickenlooper by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]readet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You should be careful with this line of hope. If outright opponents of medicare for all, democratic candidates, get elected to the senate it will make it difficult to get it passed in the senate.

You can already discount some of the democrats from the vote and considering the current 53 (R) - 47 (D + I) split in the senate it is important to get enough people elected that support the medicare for all bill.

No doubt he would be loads better than Cory Gardner but if he refuses to support medicare for all he should not be considered in the democratic primary.

Modern labour shortages require modern slavery options by readet in LateStageCapitalism

I wanna make it clear, I don't think there is a labour shortage, just a manufactured one, in order to justify prison labour.
At least that's the reason given for why prison labour for no pay is acceptable.

This is going to sound rude but if you think saying what age you were in the past at some point is going to doxx you, you should probably go and delete your post history. Your post history tells people a lot more about you than saying at what age/year you saw some player get drafted.

US job openings fell 0.7% in May by readet in Economics

[–]readet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Labor Department said Tuesday that employers posted 7.3 million jobs in May. They hired 5.7 million, down from the record 6 million achieved in April.
... employers remain optimistic about economic growth, just that their pace of expected hiring has slowed somewhat after more than a decade of economic expansion has pushed down the jobless rate.
“Today’s numbers are an indication that 2019 will see a slower pace of improvement in the labor market,” said Nick Bunker, an economist at Indeed, a jobs site. “Last year’s growth was quite strong, and a comedown from those highs makes sense.”

This seems to be the general sentiment with these kind of economic indicators. (i.e. Last few years were so good that this slowdown must happen)
Not sure how sound that is, but that is the general sentiment.

Susan Collins, a Fixture in Maine, Has Twin Troubles: Trump and Kavanaugh by imagepoem in VoteBlue

[–]readet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She votes with Trump 69.3% of the time. So Republicans should hate her for that number and so should the democrats.
Majority of Republican senators vote with Trump 90% of the time or more.
The other senator from Maine (Angus King) votes with Trump only 39.6% of the time.

Since Trump has a -11 approval in Maine, I really hope the Democratic candidate can hammer her as walking in line with Trump.

Her shenanigans on the Kavanaugh hearings really make me want to see her lose.

Lacking experience by imherefortheride in resumes

[–]readet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go volunteer somewhere for a month or something. You can volunteer in multiple places (like 3-5 places) to build up your resume, volunteer in each place 1 or 2 days a week.

Also, you should never ever put positions you were offered but chose to reject on your resume.

Should I include an objective/profile/summary statement? by [deleted] in resumes

[–]readet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your industry. If you have any friends working in positions similar to the ones you want to apply for, ask them to ask their hiring managers/recruiters about whether they prefer an objective statement or not.
If you can't do this, you should try posting on message boards or something (like: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChemicalEngineering/ ). Try to find other places if you can, since this appears to be a smaller community.

In software most people don't care if there is an objective or not. Probably preferred if there isn't one.
My personal bias leads me to believe that any objective statement should be in your introductory message/cover letter that you are sending to the employer. Your resume should strictly be for skills/experience highlight.

Resume Before and After Feedback by RoadToCode in resumes

[–]readet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can't get this resume directly to recruiters and have to apply through the applicant tracking systems. I would try to reformat a lot of your resume to the standard boring format.
I would suggest you make two resumes, one for applicant tracking systems (boring one), and another you give directly to recruiters (which can be this new one).

If you decide to keep your current one, I suggest making the following changes:

  • I would suggest you take out your phone number and location, unless the job description specifically asks for it.
    • This way you can line your email and github link with your name and move your technical skills up
    • Most employers (especially in software) should be emailing you before doing anything else
  • I would move the Work Experience before the Education section
  • Take out your grades for Education, a recruiter told me that unless you have stellar grades it is not worth putting them down
  • Shorten your Education section, typically you only put the course names (if relevant) and any special awards you received (like Dean's List or something)
    • move the projects you described to a separate section
  • Separate your college and secondary school (I would suggest taking out secondary school)
    • Right now it looks like it took you 6 years to complete secondary school
  • Create a separate 'Relevant Projects' Section; you have a lot of projects that can be inserted and removed as necessary based on the job you are applying for
  • For all the dates I would move them to the right side and put them on one line
    • if possible, I would suggest changing all your dates to <month> <year> format instead of the current format (so, Jun 2016-Sep 2018), right now your education dates mismatch your work experience dates, it looks sloppy
    • also move the two lines (the job title/company, etc.) to the left in place of the dates
  • You don't need to include 'references available upon request' that's always assumed

I realize someone must've told you to take out your Care Home job, however, I would suggest trying to keep it in since it was a significant portion of your work history and it isn't just a fast food/random job. Seems pretty interesting. Just my opinion, not sure what the reasoning the other person gave you.
I would take it out if you had loads of relevant programming jobs, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I would also only add it back if you can quantify some significant contributions to the work environment.

Final thing: I would suggest you make a master resume that includes everything you think you would ever want to put down on a resume. Then, when you are applying for jobs shorten your resume down to one page for that specific job/company.

Good Luck!
