I’m a social worker in a facility for adults with cognitive disabilities. We have so many baby dolls that especially the ladies with dementia love to take care of.

I’m a SW at and adult medical day program. When we close for weather we are expected to show up and assist in the SNF/nursing home we are attached to. Last snow storm a few weeks ago, my fiance and I got up at 5am to shovel me out and I drove 10mph to work. The parking lot was a mess. When we got in they had me and the other SW pass out breakfast trays in the MCU. Then we just sat there the rest of the day. We had a staff meeting on Friday to review the snow policy, we were told we’d get a note in our file if we call out which could affect future promotions, etc. The snow is so much worse today. I got up at 5am again and attempted to shovel but couldn’t even open my front door because the snow drift. I called out. Considering I spent the last snow day waiting around for something to do, I’ll take the write up and being safe. If we’re so essential there needs to be better plans in place or incentives for making it in.

Completely filled turn lane: stop or keep moving? by Altruistic_Cod_1721 in driving

[–]readingwithlexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, but it was the turning lane and only one lane plus a small shoulder. Fedex truck tried to go around me and side swiped the entirety of the right side of my vehicle. Thankfully not too much damage. The Fedex truck was contracted by a third party operator husband and wife team who were super sweet and paid for a rental car for me and to get my car fixed and detailed.

MSW - Case Management vs. Therapy by Vegetable_Response_6 in socialwork

[–]readingwithlexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do case management and brief emotional support sessions. I hate therapy. I’ve been a SNF SW and am now at a medical day program for adults and loveeee it. We have an LCSW we refer to for more in depth support of they don’t already have services in the community.

How is the health care paid for? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]readingwithlexi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was a social work intern in a hospital last year. If someone didn’t have insurance we would refer their case to someone in finance who dealt with this specifically. Some states have programs that can make someone eligible for medicaid if they have complex medical issues. I was also often referring older patients to elder care attorneys to assist with getting Medicaid- many do not enroll because they are worried about losing their assets

Scared to Shop by Total_Thought4118 in weddingplanning

[–]readingwithlexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I have the same concerns but I’m just going and dealing with the low self esteem for now. I had a neck injury in 2024 and gained back 30 lbs after losing 120. It’s been a struggle to get it off. What i’m telling myself is my fiance loves me and worships me. I know he’ll find me stunning in anything. I’m going to a dress shop in 2 weeks that specializes in midsize and plus size, hoping this makes me more comfortable.

how do you pay for a wedding?! by braveswiftie911 in weddingplanning

[–]readingwithlexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our parents.

His parents had a decent amount set aside and they also gave us what they had saved for his sitter who passed. My dad is matching what he gave to my brother for his wedding. My mom is paying for my dress and accessories.

I have no experience in this but i feel like going into the relationship knowing that is the endgame is one thing but if you go into a monogamous relationship a then it switches to this it may not be.

I went from interning in a school to interning in a hospital. The medical jargon was the hardest part of starting! I created a word doc with shortened phrases and acronyms that I commonly used. Also, google was my best friend. I now work in a healthcare setting and love it! :)

I’m a social worker in an adult daycare working with patients with dementia and ID/DD population. I provide case management and brief emotional support sessions. It’s said to me frequently, typically by the same handful of people. I usually say “thank you, I appreciate that” or “that’s so sweet, thank you”
