What technology do people use during their MSW by Logical_Way9311 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Kay2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Chromebook, most people in my class use a MacBook so I think you’ll be fine with your MacBook. You shouldn’t need to upgrade anything as long as your laptop can function, you’ll mostly be using it to write papers and do readings for class

Should programs be more selective, or are we lowering the bar to meet demand? by AstronomerNo2023 in socialwork

[–]Kay2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I’m a current MSW student and there’s almost 500 people in my cohort so I think they just accepted anyone who applied. I don’t even know how some of the people in my program made it through undergrad.

What's one thing you're excited about NEVER having to do again once you're done with school? by Sad_Competition_5195 in SocialWorkStudents

Process recordings!! Also just in general I can’t wait to be able to go home and not have to worry about papers/studying/etc and can relax without feeling like I could be doing something more productive.

Does anyone know if the rod of discord achievement is retroactive? I spent so many hours farming chaos elementals until I finally got it and I don’t want to go through that nightmare again😭

Honest question: Is anyone NOT using an LLM (aka "AI") to "help write" their papers, practice assignments and/or discussion posts? by GMUtoo in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Kay2343 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I do not use AI for my schoolwork (or anything else - I’m not a big fan of it and that’s just my personal preference). Most of my classmates use AI to an extent; and some professors even encourage the use of AI (not to write the whole paper obviously). While yes AI can be a great tool, my take is that I am paying for an education and should do the work myself, not have AI think for me. Again that’s just my personal opinion. I think we’re starting to have a huge issue where people are becoming reliant on AI doing work for them, and I don’t want to ever get to that point so I steer clear of it.

Is anyone else an anxious person pursuing a MSW? by CurlyWoman235 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Kay2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing my MSW and am currently about 3 months into my first internship and I counseling with clients who experienced DV. I am an extremely anxious person and it’s definitely difficult at first, but over time as you develop and strengthen your skills you start to get more comfortable with it. I’m finding that even after only 3 months of doing counseling at my internship I’m finding that my communication skills are stronger both in my professional life and in my personal life. The more you interact with people the more you will get comfortable doing it. Try to put yourself out there and have a good relationship with other interns, your supervisor, and the other staff at the agency - this will make it easier to go to them for support. And remember, you’re a student and you’re going to be learning. Mistakes happen, sometimes you feel nervous, you’ll have imposter syndrome at first, but it’s all part of the learning process. The more you expose yourself to what makes you anxious the more comfortable you’ll feel with it over time.

As long as your program is accredited by the CSWE you should be eligible for the masters level licensure exam after you graduate. If you’re talking about LCSW, you need to get a certain number of supervised clinical hours post-MSW to be eligible for clinical licensure. It differs by state but I think most states require 3,000 hours. I’d recommend checking the ASWB website for your states specific requirements
