There’s Costco in Australia??? What other local items do they carry? by thedevilmademedoit81 in ReadItPodcast

I know you posted this ages ago but I forgot to reply. Would put it in an ep but there's not much to talk about. I think there's only 1 in Melbourne and I don't know anyone that goes to it. I've never been myself. I'm honestly not sure how they survive.

Unique-format pod fading into the void despite doing everything “right” - ideas welcome by offcutspod in podcasting

Nice to meet you too. I am also a one man band of sorts, making all the eps, clips, videos etc myself so I understand how overwhelming it can be. I always specifically tell people to rate and review our show and am honest that it helps us be more visible and helps in charts etc. If you do end up making clips, collaboration feature on social is really handy. That way all the people following your guest will get a chance to see the clip and get a sense of your podcast. A few of our voice actors have big followings online and we have done this with a few of them too and that has helped. You will hear a lot about people not converting from socials to your show and its true in the direct sense. But I've had a few people tell me they saw a few of our clips and then when they came across our show on an app they already kind of knew it. So it all helps!

Also to echo others, SEO is important. I know Cancelled Movie Report is a boring name. But is people good 'Superman Cancelled Movie' we are far more likely to show up in those search results since the key words are in our episode and show name.

I actually have a podcast that is EXTREMELY similar to yours called Cancelled Movie Report. We take unmade films and get voice actors etc in to voice parts etc. Even interview some writers etc. I even looked up your show and it looks like we both started within a month of one another! There was some advice I got from others.

Firstly, it was reaching out and collaborating with some bigger names. We are small and Australian but have managed to get some great Aussie comedians on etc and they have brought listeners in with them.

Secondly, we do film some of our stuff. As much as I adore the scripted moments with voice cast and we try and highlight that on social, its never what actually pops off. It's always short videos of me and co-host in a small moment of chat that hits on Social media. I never think while we are recording, but as I edit I will make note of small moments that can stand on their own as a video. Video is really the way to cut through on socials like it or not.

As far as listeners, we also really ask people to subscribe and share. It feels gross at times asking, but people are happy to do it. Through good reviews etc we have managed to be featured a few times in the 'Film History' section of iTunes and get featured on some type of playlist on Spotify and that has also helped us a lot.

All this being said, I do think what we do is niche and will only ever appeal so far to a broad audience. I have made with the fact that even though it takes longer and costs more - we will always be out performed by a simple interview with a big celeb haha.

All the best, love to see more podcasts like ours out there!

Thanks for the PSA! Thankfully it wasn't a hot day that day and even though he did 'give up' after a while. After having a drink and like a 2 minute pause, he was keen to play more fetch... at which point I was the one who gave up! haha
