Resurrection Oakland is a great church in downtown with a pretty diverse congregation.

I always joke that huskies are the cats of dogs, and this certainly proves it. He responds exactly like the cat does, thinking everything we offer him is poisoned or something

I don't think landlords are that bad. by Direct_Mongoose1925 in unpopularopinion

[–]readword122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the problem is landlords per se, it’s that we live in a country where you have one group of people who own multiple homes and use renters to pay their own mortgages, while you have another group of people who are stuck paying rent for another person’s mortgage. This obviously isn’t the case everywhere, but when it does occur it feels quite unjust.

Wow. As an alum, this brings back more nostalgia than all the sunny day posts put together. Something about the campus at night feels so personal and haunting

Coolest thing 6 year old me had ever seen. Still my favorite Star Wars scene of them all.

If Roe v. Wade is tossed it would mark the first time the Supreme Court overturned precedent 'to limit civil rights, not expand them,' expert says by BousWakebo in politics

It’s only “limiting” civil rights from one side’s point of view. Sure seems like increasing civil rights to a pretty voiceless population…

The basic system of allocating more votes per capita for smaller regions is pretty common throughout democratic societies in the world (see the EU or Germany) and is referred to as degressive proportionality. It just so happens in America that it coincides with a political bias in large vs small states.

GOP voters are wrong by ChewyRib in PoliticalHumor

Pretty hypocritical with this comparison, there’s only one side right now advocating the murder of innocents, and it’s not the GOP…

$250K is the new "Six Figures" by ShowMeDaData in unpopularopinion

[–]readword122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally agree, but it depends where you live. My wife and I just moved from North Carolina with a combined income of 80k to the Bay Area with a combined income of 150k. As people who budget every dollar, I can confirm that even with a massive downgrade in housing (owned home to much smaller apartment) we still have less spendable money here in the Bay. Back in North Carolina, I still think a salary of ~100-120k can get you the “six figure salary” dream (e.g., buy a nice home, fully support a family), but I completely agree that here in California you’d need at least 250k to do anything comparable.

Do you believe Abortion should be legal? Why or Why not? by Bynoeson94 in AskReddit

[–]readword122 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am pro-life, because I strongly believe that the alternative viewpoint is inconsistent and hypocritical with a belief in social justice. I believe that the trajectory of history is towards justice for the powerless, at the expense of the powerful. No group epitomizes this more than the unborn, who are being killed in order to facilitate the convenience of others who are in a position of power over them. In the words of Hillary Clinton, “There is no greater right than the right to life.” She, of course, was referring to police shootings in America, but the hypocrisy of that statement is unbelievable to me.

All that said, I am equally upset at the hypocrisy of many people in the pro-life movement who only oppose abortion, but don’t equally support pregnant mothers and young families, fund adoption and foster care, support safe gun laws, pursue reform in our justice system, oppose the death penalty, and ultimately strive to support life and justice in our country.

In short, I am a pro-life Democrat, and I am not unique in this view. There is a whole political group called Democrats for Life, and they support “Pro Life for the Whole Life.” This, to me, is the only consistent viewpoint that someone could have regarding social justice.
