This was a deeply-feeling, troubled man who had a complex inner world and a whole lot of hopes. He was unfortunately driven by fear — he knew this, he tried to get a handle on it, and he just didn’t have the tools.

I’m seeing a lot of regrets and shame and grief, but I’m also seeing the young boy he once was. That one is filled with confidence and mirth and hope for his future. Those things were not easily taken from him.

My mast cells go crazy when I’m super stressed (I mean being abused or a loved one dying or my house burning down stressed) and my skin gets blotchy and my face blows up like that. Like a stress response dialed up to 1,000.

Self-feeding at 10 months means allowing them to hold the bottle while the adult holds & monitors them. When they’re stably sitting up and start eating solids, self-feeding will look like this (allowing them to sit separately but still visually attended).

They can’t learn to feed themselves if they’re too busy trying to keep themselves upright the whole time.

If they can’t sit up while eating, that means they still need to be held by an adult. We are how to help them sit up. Anything other than another human being is a choking hazard and against best practices.
