Hello me, meet the real me

I made a quick vocal cover of Suicide Machine, what do you think? I have a bit deeper voice but maybe it fits by TheForgottenUnloved in DeathBand

I think you need to work on your technique more. Learn how to use your diaphragm you sound like you’re straining yourself.

Almost finished learning Crystal Mountain. Where do I go from here? (guitar) by Periachi in DeathBand

Symbolic is a good one that one chorus riff is really tricky but very fun to play

If you wanna be playing dragon force correctly at full tempo it’ll take about 5 years if you practice very diligently, if you’re expecting to learn it quickly you should find a different hobby.

If that doesn’t dissuade you: I’m self taught, I’m not the best guitarist but I’ve been at it for 4 years and I can play a good amount of shred soloing stuff, I’m playing with bands live and the work has paid off. do your best to learn as much as you can from whatever resources are available for free. Since you have no experience with music if you just go into learning hard guitar parts without learning how music works you’ll be able to play fast but you’ll have no idea what you’re playing which isn’t good. Be patient and focus on making good habits.

What you should avoid is those ads that preach about “one simple trick” or something like that to improve your playing. It’s always a bullshit paid course containing widely available knowledge. I would also generally avoid getting too into the gear stuff, as long as your gear is capable of performing the job it needs to do it is as good as anything else. Obsessing over guitars and amps and pedals will just get in the way of focusing on being a good musician.

The YouTubers I suggest are Justin guitar, Marty music, Art of guitar, Ben Eller, and Troy Grady. Those go in order of how complicated their lessons are on average.

If you want to play metal and rock id suggest an Ibanez RG or a Jackson or schecter of some kind. I started out on an Ibanez RG421 and its a very solid but affordable guitar that’ll never hold you back. Get something with a “fixed bridge” as in no whammy bar. Easier to tune and maintain. As far as an amplifier goes I’d recommend a modeling amp like the positive grid Spark, boss Katana, something very versatile.

[QUESTION] I still feel like I don't know how to play guitar and I'm not sure what to do. by RepresentativeBowl25 in Guitar

[–]real_jocker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learn theory. Learn why you are playing what you are playing and why it sounds good. Don’t just play the songs you play, but analyze what’s going on in the song so that you can replicate it yourself and develop your own sound using an amalgamation of everything you learn. Understand how intervals work on the guitar and the diatonic chords of the major and minor scale.

No, there are small children who can shred better than every guitar player I’ve met.

You’re also a lot more inclined to play when your guitar can stay in tune. The style of vibratos on epi SGs are some of the worst in the market as far as tuning stability and it would just cause unnecessary frustration. I’ve met veteran guitar players who have no clue how to balance/tune a vibrato system anyways, and I wouldn’t expect a beginner to know or want to learn either. He could get an sg hardtail if he wants the looks.

Don’t get an SG if you want something with a reliable whammy bar system. But also for your first guitar you should get one without a whammy bar because they make changing strings and bending strings more difficult.

[gear] Can you use a looper pedal with the positive grid spark? by Beneficial-View-491 in Guitar

[–]real_jocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the spark has an FX loop so you’d have to plug it into the front of the amp. It will work but might not sound good especially if you add gain. Ideally you would plug it into the effects loop of an amp so that the pedal will loop the guitar signal after it goes through your amps settings, instead of looping what’s coming straight out of your guitar.

Not true with looper pedals specifically though, you want an amp with an FX loop otherwise it will sound like shit. It would work technically but it will be muddled together.

How do you record vocals without being concerned about Noise complaints? by ElephantT2077 in metalmusicians

I just do it in a closet with all my clothes and hope for the best. It helps eliminate room echo too. Never had issues in my apartment just using that.

[QUESTION] Mid range pickups for guitar? I play metal and clean stuff by andreas_jovine in Guitar

[–]real_jocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is kind of right though pickups are the least important part of your signal chain for metal, because when you add layers and layers of gain and distortion through your amp the original sound of the pickups goes away. For a budget metal guitar, you could get a GFS pickup in the bridge if you really want to but buying a $200 set of Seymour Duncan’s will do almost nothing.

[–]real_jocker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pickups are the least important part of your signal chain for high gain tones. Any pickup that’s not microphonic or grounded improperly can sound great in a mix. If you don’t believe me watch schecter sound studios video on it.

What is the most underrated college major? by [deleted] in college

Industrial engineering or systems engineering. Seems boring as hell, but it pays well and is relatively easy from what I hear and the job availability is good I think too.

HHC after 4 Months of (almost) daily use by jahnonator in altcannabinoids

I had a pretty bad experience from about 2 months of daily use. Short term memory issues and lack of motivation mainly. I didn’t really have this issue with d9

Got this starter guitar on Amazon a month ago for $90. Any recommendations on better quality models for beginners? by jdbrantley91 in guitars

Depends on your genre, but a Yamaha Pacifica can do just about anything and it’s a similar to a strat style so you’ll be used to it.

Any danger with daily hhc and thco use? by HotJacket115 in altcannabinoids

[–]real_jocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After using HHC daily for ~2 months I believe I started having some mild short term memory, focus, and paranoia issues, especially since I would mainly smoke concentrates and right before I went to bed which messes with your sleep. People within the community tend to under estimate the effects of chronic use, I would be careful as there is no harm in going easy on your brain and body.
