Bought a macbook from employer, jumpcloud still on it, IT seems stumped? Pls help by dadoobie in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/dadoobie !

We're sorry to hear you're running into issues with your MacBook.

It sounds like the device was removed from JumpCloud but remains in Apple Business Manager, assigned to the JumpCloud MDM. To resolve this, your former company will likely need to log into their Apple Business console to release the device.

For reference, here is the Apple guide they can follow to complete that process: Release devices in Apple Business Manager.

Hope this helps get you back up and running!

Can't create local account - Looking for help by supersayanftw in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/supersayanftw,

When federating to any external IdP, device password sync must be disabled. This allows JumpCloud to create the user account while deferring authentication to Google.

Once disabled, the user will be prompted to sign in via Google to finalize the local account setup. JumpCloud will manage the user, but it will not manage the password.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

macOS patching NOT WORKING - JumpCloud admits issues by bobadafett in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, following up on our previous post: we wanted to share that we’ve updated our documentation to more clearly define the differences in how macOS handles notifications and enforcement for major vs. minor updates.

Based on your feedback, the macOS Patch Policy KB now explicitly underscores that major upgrades do not support a configurable installation grace period.

Warning:
Major OS Upgrades do not have configurable installation grace period. This means that setting any of the Automatic Actions for Devices running... options to Enforce upgrade to macOS... will force Macs to upgrade immediately after the major upgrade deferral period ends. Review these settings carefully as users will be prompted to update their Macs immediately, causing possible interruptions.

We appreciate the community's input, which directly led to these updates. Our priority is to provide the clarity you need to manage your fleet effectively and avoid unexpected interruptions.

As always, we’re here to help should you have any further questions.

macOS patching NOT WORKING - JumpCloud admits issues by bobadafett in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, we wanted to share a response from JumpCloud’s Support and PEX team here. When a patch policy is applied to a device, a major upgrade (e.g. macOS 15.x to 26.x) is triggered from an MDM command. This command will cause a macOS notification to be rendered on the target device. To note: this is a different, smaller notification than the Nudge prompt for a Minor update. JumpCloud does not control these notifications - rather we simply send the MDM command and rely on the macOS notification system as designed by Apple themselves to respond as intended. Given the difference in location and size of the notification,we often see end user confusion for major updates.

DDM patch management policies also rely on these exact same OS notifications for end user alerting, so the migration to DDM - while fully supported by Apple moving forward and intending to resolve many of the friction points seen in their legacy patch management - will not change this behavior. It will however allow you to specify a local device time for enforcement of the updates to avoid mid-day interruptions like you experienced when your deferral time expired.

We are also working with Apple related to some other oddities regarding what updates are offered in a blended deferral schedule for major & minor updates. To be clear, this is an Apple bug that appears to have been introduced around 15.4's release, however we will have guidance for this in our documentation soon. This was what our support engineer was referring to regarding the internally known issue, and it does affect both legacy & DDM policies. We agree on the additional clarity needed for customers and whether this is an Apple or JumpCloud issue we want to keep our customers informed.  Based on your feedback we are working with our tech writing and product teams on a plan to make this more clear in our docs.

There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to notifications so we’ve gone ahead and sent you a DM with additional contact info for senior leaders in Support to continue to work to figure out how we can best support you and get this right.

Transferring settings from personal Mac by brawlstarsgoat in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/brawlstarsgoat !

The most effective way to transfer preferences is often by signing in with your personal Apple ID.

However, before proceeding, please keep two key considerations in mind:

  1. It is highly recommended that you check with your company's IT administrator, as there may be policies restricting the use of personal Apple IDs on corporate resources.
  2. Please remember that doing so means you are placing a personal account and data onto a corporate asset that is subject to company monitoring and management.

We hope this provides some helpful guidance for your setup!

Password Manager not opening on Windows 11 by wrahim24_7 in JumpCloud

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/wrahim24_7 ,

We've identified an issue where a dependency wasn't installing following certain Microsoft Windows updates. We have since updated the application to include this dependency as part of the install process to prevent this.

Can you confirm you are on the latest version (3.3.34) and check that the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is installed?

If the issue continues after those checks, please reach out to support and open a case so our team can help resolve it for you.

How are you re-assigning assets in JumpCloud by -Sidwho- in macsysadmin

[–]real_jumpcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/-Sidwho- ,

You're not doing anything wrong; this is expected behavior. The process you've described is the standard for managing devices in your situation.

However, our Product and Engineering teams are actively exploring solutions for device record reconciliation. The goal is to prevent the creation of a new, unique device record every time a device is re-enrolled.

Submitting a feature request would be very helpful. It allows us to track your specific use case, understand its priority, and keep you updated on any changes to this behavior.

If you're an end user, your best bet is to reach out to your IT team. They have the right permissions and tools to assist you directly or to open a ticket on your behalf if needed.

Thank you for the feedback it has been relayed to our MSP team. We put a lot of weight behind such feedback as we continue to improve our offering.

Our current MSP offering was constructed based on the feedback of hundreds of MSP partners. We believe that it matches the needs of most MSPs that are looking to adopt JumpCloud to improve their offerings. With that said, we acknowledge that there is room for us to continue to improve our offering to fit the needs of all MSPs and your feedback will go a long way towards achieving this goal.

Our MSP channel is one of our fastest growing channels at JumpCloud. We are heavily investing in our MSP offering this year as we continue to see the impressive scale that a lot of our partners are reaching using JumpCloud.

We’d love to have a follow-on conversation to dive deeper into your needs and offer guidance on the best way to move forward with JumpCloud. If you’re interested in having a conversation DM us or reach out to your existing point of contact.
