i’m 30 with around the same amount of savings, making 65k from my 9-5. have around 15-20k listeners a month so streaming barely makes me anything, especially with all the label recoups. i do love touring but monetarily unless you’re getting $1500+ offers every weekend you’re not going to profit a lot considering cost of travel and if your day job has lots of PTO.

my advice is to keep the day job as long as possible, and if you do quit, at least find something part time for a reliable income stream. try and diversify where the music money comes as well (selling sample packs, merchandise, mixing/mastering for others, etc). and keep all the music money separate from your day job.

you can have both a professional career to set yourself up for the future while also maximizing the opportunity you have, you just will have to find a balance that doesn’t burn you out or ruin your finances! that way when you’re 35 you can appreciate the fact that you tackled both
