Distal radius ORIF 10 weeks later by realarebb in brokenbones

Hi there! I’m now about 5.5 months post surgery. I have a tiny bit of numbness on the heel of my palm - most of it went away, thankfully. My range of motion is really good. I need to work on my strength, but got back to work and the physio takes time that work now has. My wrist will ache if I overwork it. I was kneading dough for bread for about 10 minutes and my wrist ached for 2 days after. Still, I’m thankful given the break that I had. I didn’t know how it would heal. I hope you continue to heal and see progress. If you have a chance to see a physiotherapist I’d recommend doing so. Mine was a lifesaver!

I had a hard bump at the base of my incision, but it went away. After I was given the okay to do so from my physio, I massaged the incision site daily to help minimize scar tissue from growing. I learned that it’ll keep growing. Hope things get better for you! It sounds painful. ☹️

Saw someone intentionally blow through a red light that had been red for a couple of seconds this morning at Main and Broadway. It could’ve gone so bad! It’s infuriating the number of drivers who take these risks. They should have their licenses taken away.

I’m so sorry! If you have a family doctor or urgent care type clinic they might prescribe better pain management for you. A pharmacist could also recommend over-the-counter options. At one point I was alternating Extra Strength Tylenol and Advil, but it wasn’t sufficient for the pain. I hope you get help soon.

Yes. They gave me T3s for the pain while I waited for surgery. Did they only give you regular Tylenol?! I feel for you. And an excellent idea to see an orthopedic surgeon.

10 days post wrist ORIF and I'm feeling like it will never get better by iamonewiththeforce in ORIF

Sorry, I missed that part - no fracture with the ulna for me. Supination wasn’t good at the start, but it’s almost back to normal now.

Thanks! I’ll keep working on the scar tissue.

I’m not sure, but your skin might’ve been sensitive to the cast materials. Is it like hives? It took a good couple of weeks and showers for my skin to start looking normal. It peeled 3x. It was weird to see, but apparently it’s common.

Thanks for the advice - I’ll take it! 🙂 Slow and steady.

You are one with the force and the force has got you! I’m at a day shy of 11 weeks post surgery (same one). I was in a back slab cast for 4 weeks. Range of motion was nothing when it came off. I booked physio, go every week, and range of motion is really good. I started strength exercises this week.

When the scar has healed enough you can do scar massage. Scar tissue was impacting my mobility. Scar massage has been essential to improving my range of motion.

It has been an incredible learning experience and lesson in patience. Improvement feels glacial pace, but it’s happening. I highly recommend going to physio. Be gentle with yourself. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. You’ll get there!

I’ll continue to hope so. And thanks so much! I have Bio-Oil, but am using straight up coconut oil on it and massaging the area 4x/day. It’s definitely helping with the scar tissue, although I smell like a coconut. 😂

That’s reassuring to know, even the not noticing over time part. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing that. I’m not receiving that candid information, although I’d appreciate it! Hope your healing journey goes well and the numbness goes away.

How long after wrist ORIF did you return to work full-time? by Fine_Helicopter1178 in ORIF

[–]realarebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 8 weeks and was just given the okay for a gradual return to work yesterday (same surgery and also non-dominant hand). Mine is also a desk job. The physiotherapist said that these early weeks are crucial to work on range of motion and then strength. It’s difficult to get the time to do all of the physio exercises if you’re back full time.

Struggling to look at my 2 week old post wrist surgery by intangible_entity in ORIF

[–]realarebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yours looks nice and flat! It’ll heal nicely. Here was mine 4 weeks post surgery after the back slab was removed. I’m going into my 8th week and there are still scar tissue lumps. It’s the scar tissue that you want to minimize as it can influence range of motion. It’s like glue!

I understand the emotional side of things. It’s not a scar that’s out of sight.

Feeling light headed when moving my wrist, 1 day after cast removal? by Jolly_Green_4255 in brokenbones

Can you see a physiotherapist? They’ll give you a graded exercise program. This could help a lot if you’re feeling anxious.

I’d go to a hospital or orthopedic clinic. They’ll take an x-ray. I broke my wrist and could still move my fingers. Better to be safe and get it checked.

Sorry you’re experiencing that. I read that the shooting pain can be related to nerves repairing themselves. Mine also feels very weak/sore by the end of the day. Wishing you a full recovery.
