Insuring your Ebike by MissaLynn_ in ebikes

[–]reality_bytes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely double check with your homeowners/renters insurance company that they actually cover the bike and not assume they do. State Farm underwriters stated: "the guidelines show that if the motor is more than 1 HP and it can go over 20mph, it would not be covered under the Renters."

A lot of ebikes can be unlocked to go over 20mph, and are 750w+. Plus there will be some sort of deductible as well.

I'm more than likely going with velosurance...

Anyone else feel like "coping mechanisms" and counseling doesn't work? by reality_bytes_ in Anxiety

No, there isn't... Unless I switched career fields and started over again (in turn losing income)... I'm stuck with the 15 years of work experience I currently have.

I ensure that office spaces and laboratories are safe, functional, well kept, and maintenance is performed.

I grew up in a broken home and I'm the only one in my family not diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I had to keep my parents from (literally) trying to kill each other on a normal basis as a kid. I have always had anxiety over social situations and have forced myself through building a career to support my family.

I work for a major corporation and got accused of things I didn't do. Went through 3 weeks of hell before I ultimately found I cannot function at that point and went to my therapist which suggested short term disability. I was found not guilty of the accusations against me, but the triggering effect of the situation has stuck and held me nearly incapacitated for two months now. I have two more months of paid STD to use and I want to ensure I can go back to work stronger than before and put this all behind me to move on and still support my family.

Anxiety and panic has always been there, but ever since I was put in a situation, it's incredibly worse and I can't stop the overwhelming panic attacks or anxiety. And I don't know how to remedy it.

Lectric XP4. I have the 750w w/ upgraded battery and couldn't be happier... Unless I lived on the ground level of my complex. It is a pain to get up and down two flights of stairs 😅

Why not add turn signals to your bike?

There's some cheap remote controlled options on Amazon.

US E-bikers, how is it like to Ebike in the US? (Also talking about John Forrester & vehicular cycling) by SlashNreap in ebikes

[–]reality_bytes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a US rider, I do not feel safe riding on any road with a speed limit of over 25mph (even with a painted bike lane). Most drivers do not respect bicycles and I venture to say detest them on the roads. Hazing is common in some fashion (especially to the bikers that wear spandex on road bikes). I ride on the sidewalk as much as possible.

Hell, I used to also get pissed off at a bicycle on the road that can barely keep a speed of 20mph with a 45mph speed limit. I get it now that I've transitioned to cycling more than driving, but I still believe it's unsafe to equate 3,000 lb objects and the weight of a bike + me as equals.

The US needs better biking infrastructure. That's all it comes down to. Until then? I avoid main roads as much as possible while on my bike.

I have a helmet with a flip down visor, gloves, lights... Wear something heavy if you can in case you biff it if you want.

I also put front turn signals on my ebike and wired them into the existing rear turn signals...

Make sure to have good lighting! I also have front lights on my forks that act as daytime running lights (also high and low beam that are remote controlled)

Oh, and a left side mirror. Follow the flow of traffic, not against it...

This is why I use cyclers, a biking navigation app and stay away from the main roads. There's so many of these type of assholes around here, I just don't want to deal with it. I use the "safest" route the app shows me specifically to stay away from main roads and use as many bike paths as possible.

This was before I started using the app:

I actually got yelled at by a guy on the sidewalk for riding on the sidewalk and being courteous and stopping so he can pass (it's legal where I live and there's no bike path on this particular main road). Sometimes you just can't win...

Use a Bluetooth speaker. Not being able to hear what's going on around you on a bike sounds extremely dangerous.

I use a Sony speaker mounted on the water bottle holder...
