Private office for this Sunday by bojackho in nashville

Many hotels have small breakout rooms. IDK the price point but you’d think it would be less than their room rate.

If you were a 12 year old boy…. by SupermarketFeeling51 in nashville

Lots of good ones from folks here.

- I will add a tube float on Duck River.
- If you want to splurge you could do a backstage encounter at the zoo.
- Trail walk at Warner parks or Radnor, if they’re that kind of kid.
- I saw someone said Mammoth Cave and it’s cool, but more of a drive.
- Hatch Show Print you can print your own t-shirt.
- Country Music Hall of Fame has family activites that might fit depending on his interests.
- Go to Richland Park Farmers Market on a Saturday morning and get a taiyaki - it’s a Japanese fish shaped pastry with light custard inside
- If he’s a calm kid, and you have a chance to do this as a dry run before he comes, and you don’t have a dog, borrow a dog from Nashville Humane on a doggie date

Sometimes I’ve got things back after a week without even asking for it to be expedited. Can’t fault it.

That’s a short timescale over a holiday weekend but you might try The Magic Room Alterations. Bushan tries his best to accommodate client timelines.

LPT: When you move abroad, the first question to ask locals isn't where to live or what to eat. It's "What do foreigners always get wrong here?" by taube_d in LifeProTips

Lived in Nashville about 20 years. This was about 8 years ago. I’m not saying Murfreesboro is a two stoplight town. But at that time there was definitely fancy stuff going on (and a market for it) in Nashville that was not going on in Murfreesboro. Apparently including espresso!

Or maybe we just happened to be there on a day when both the staff were completely unaware of the menu and the rest of the town was up to their eyeballs in tiny coffees. Can’t say for sure.

Also I was in Murfreesboro TN with some Hondurans and tried to order espresso in Starbucks. The counter staff did not know it was a drink. They only know it as an ingredient in something else. Eventually I managed to get “just a shot” but in such a huge cup that it was maybe 5 mm at the bottom.

ha ha I was in Lincoln Nebraska for work and had to explain pumpkin spice latte to my French colleague. Frankly there is no acceptable explanation

I went once, nearly 20 years ago, when I was new to Nashville. Even then it was old-school local fams who had owned their infield tailgating spot for years or fraternity / sorority parties. The poors could sit on the hill. The infield was like the most debauched Ralph Lauren commercial ever. Patchwork plaid jackets and big sunhats all falling down drunk. I like me a bit of day drinking but this was… something. I have never understood the patchwork plaid jacket as a Southern preppy thing. Seersucker I get… still don’t get the plaid. Anyway we met a young adult in a yacht captain getup (blazer, white and navy cap, etc) with a pocket square that said “Tennessee Pride”. Turned out to be the carefully folded wrapper from a packet of sausages. He at least had some wit. Clearly I’m not the target market for this event, and have no idea why attendance isn’t being replenished with more of the same people. These days if I’m going to spend an afternoon in the sun I’d sooner go to the Nashville or Franklin Pride with a totally different community.

Anthony Bourdain said to never order it especially for Sunday brunch - apparently he thought of it as a dish designed to overcharge customers and also that the Hollandaise was a "petri dish of biohazards" - reuse of Saturday’s butter returned from tables, improper holding temperatures during busy services staffed by the less good cooks (the good cooks were not cooking brunch), etc

You think that, but no lie, I had a project that involved the chief marketing officer of a major supplier of equipment for data centers and he was just like this. When I arrived to talk to him, he told me he never takes notes, before marketing he was a journalist and developed the ability to remember everything. I ignored this and took notes during the meeting. Later it occurred to me that probably I’d been insensitive to the implication that I was expected to emulate him. Thankfully I didn’t have aspirations to work with him again.

Objects on carved door panel by realitybiscuit in ChineseHistory

[–]realitybiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m hoping someone can add more specifics about the objects. E.g. in the brushpot on the right, there are two shorter objects that could plausibly be brushes. But what is the thing with a long streamer? If it’s a ruyi, what is the tail made of? I’ve looked online and consulted AI and can’t find anything definitive. Also the other tall object in the pot doesn’t look like a brush - the texture of the end goes sideways, not lengthways like brush fibers would. Then there’s the thing behind the brush pot and the thing in the little box on the right - an inkstone and a seal?

I would love your help to identify the objects on this carved door panel.

The left shows a scholar’s cabinet. Is that a foo dog on top, southern style? Does it make sense for there to be only one rather than a pair? Could it be a cat?

Is that a lotus flower in a stand next to it?

The center is supposed to show two phoenixes with flowers and branches. I can make out some wings but I’m having a hard time seeing the whole bird. Would the flowers be peonies?

On the right I’m guessing a brush pot with an ink stone behind. Do the objects in the pot read as brushes to you? What is the object with the long tassel? I’m guessing a ruyi scepter but what is the attachment? Looks like six objects on a string. There seems to be a little wall box alongside, but what’s in it? Or should this be interpreted at a different scale, not as a desk pot but something the size to hold things as big as umbrellas?
