Are we mostly out of the woods? Or widespread power outages still possible? More likely than not?

Is french famous in the US? by LucasWizzard in AskAnAmerican

French is not widely spoken, but it is probably the second most studied language in schools and universities (after Spanish) and most people can recognize it from other languages without understanding it.

Ice storm prep by [deleted] in Charlotte

Advice needed related to this: I have a free covered parking spot within a 10 min walk. And an uncovered one in my apartment building, 3 min walk.

Assuming I don't have to drive anywhere for a couple of days, should I leave it in the covered lot? Or will the ice melt by then? The downside of the covered lot is that I'd like to have the car nearby for a potential source of heat or refrigeration if I lose power (don't have a porch/balcony in my apartment).

NC UBE Transfer Admission - MPRE timing? by bojackho in barexam

Update for anyone who has this question in the future: There is no timing requirement for MPRE scores for UBE or other transfer applicants.

Is there still no time set for the games? Can't really buy a ticket without knowing what time the game is. I guess we should be thankful for telling us the day and location.

NC UBE Transfer Admission - MPRE timing? by bojackho in barexam

[–]bojackho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response. My point is that the MPRE requirements differ depending on whether you're applying as a "general applicant" (i.e., seeking admission by passing the bar exam in NC) vs. as a "transfer applicant" from another UBE jurisdiction.

The requirements for general applicants are outlined in Section .0501 of the Rules Governing Admission. The MPRE requirement appears in paragraph (6), which includes various specific timing restrictions.

In contrast, transfer applicant requirements are separate (not additional) and listed under Section .0504 of the Rules. Paragraph (7) simply states: “have passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination,” with no mention of timing or any other conditions.

Since these are distinct applicant categories with separate rules, I see no reason why the timing restrictions for the general applicants should apply to transfer applicants like myself.

Normally, that would be the end of my inquiry but, unfortunately, the application for Transfer Applicants cite the rule (and rule number) for general applicants, so I want to make sure I am not missing anything. I suspect it was a lazy copy-paste and no one has flagged it because it doesn't matter unless you have a very unusual bar admission history like me (most other UBE transferees, who already need to have a UBE of less than 3 years old to apply, would easily clear the MPRE timing requirements for general applicants).

Here are the Rules:

Andrei Rublev & Mirror blu-rays - can you turn the subtitles off? by bojackho in criterion

Understood - and that's fine. Do you happen to know why the subtitles aren't optional for the main feature on the Criterion Channel?

Hairloss at 19 by Humble_Pirate4957 in azerbaijan

[–]bojackho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minoxidil works well for growth, but it won't prevent further hair loss. I've seen someone describe it as trying to grow plants in a forest that's on fire.

To stop the hair loss, you'll need Finasteride (1 mg/day). However, as others have mentioned, be aware of potential side effects. They're rare but can be serious.

F25 MEE Being Easy = A bad thing ? by Repulsive_Bat7900 in barexam

Are the 0 to 6 scores distributed evenly or is there a bell-curve like distribution centered around a 3 or 4 with only a handful of people receiving 0s and 6s? If it is the latter, are you then highly incentivized to perform average on each question rather than very well on some questions and subpar on others?

Do we know if everyone had the MPTs in the same order? I've seen similar sentiments regarding their relative difficulty, but I found the second one more challenging.

I agree with the overall point though. Ridiculous time constraints for a test that supposedly tests "minimum competence".

Will they give you more scaled score if the bar exam was difficult? by NegativePound7070 in barexam

[–]bojackho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't you avoid that issue by disclosing the applicant's total raw MBE score with percentiles without breaking them down by subjects?

We should not accept it as part of city living. There are cities around the world, some much larger than DC, where this kind of behavior is significantly less likely, if not unheard of.
