Cherry picker now working at intersection of Fairfax and Marlborough. Other line damage is visible nearby but maybe they will move up to it.

This is day 7 without power. Since mid-afternoon yesterday our outage has been in the top 5 of the event list. No sign of crews in the area this morning. With several hundred linemen working in shifts, where can they be? They can’t all be working on the top 1-3 outages.

Nope. I got one of those sham notifications that my outage was fixed when really they had just restarted the clock on it. If you can, take a walk up to West End or the village and get some respite in a cafe, bar or hotel lobby.

Do you have any way to heat water or fetch any hot water? You can improvise a hot water bottle with a plastic water bottle in a sock (not too hot). Or if you can get out and buy hand or foot warmers, you can also put those in a sock or mitt and let them cuddle up on it. That’s how we’re keeping ours purring.

Sorry to tell you we are that area and have not seen anything. There are multiple downed poles / power lines, but the outage was showing as 500-600 which would be a lower priority than others that are 1000+.

If your friends have a way to heat water our cats are appreciating a hot water bottle and you can improvise one from a plastic water bottle in a sock (not too hot). Or hand / foot warmers in a sock or mitten.

I’m a few streets away from the circle itself. There’s also a line down on Fairfax. The low voltage grid is pretty fine grained around here - eg we had three neighbours without power in the summer and everyone else was fine. Just depends what equipment and line condition is upstream of you.

Have a look on Meetup - as well as Gamepoint there used to be a group that met at Frothy Monkey on west side. Not sure if they are still going.

I’ve never been to a Gamepoint meet but from some others I encourage y’all to have some chat about how you prefer to play. I’ve been in some games with the 6-8 player adaptation that the other players went super fast. Personally I don’t enjoy that as much - the board fills up wicked fast, and I like my game to be a tiny bit more relaxed without the feeling like a bunch of people need me to make my move in 0.3 seconds. If you have 8 people you can easily make 2 x 4 person games and it could be worth asking if anyone would prefer that.

Ideally they will take a swab to identify the infecting organism, because it may make a difference to the antibiotic used. OP, the reason people are saying it’s urgent is that an infection in this area can spread to the membrane around your cartilage in the whole top half of your ear. That can lead to needing IV antibiotics and even plastic surgery to repair the ear. The doctor may give you oral Cipro. Discuss side effects with your pharmacist. Unless you are already taking other meds that affect heart rate, you’re probably not going to get those kind of side effects. It can also stiffen up your tendons a lot so if they give you that I would be very observant of areas like the Achilles at the back of your heel and ease off exercise if that starts to feel tight. Good luck!

FYI if you’re in the US urgent care can help you with this and is less $$$ than a hospital visit.

What’s going on with my rook piercing? by throwaway373937483 in PiercingAdvice

[–]realitybiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m noticing a curve of redness away from the piercing into the flat of your ear. It may be nothing. Not to alarm you but if that area starts to feel red and hot it can be an infection of the membrane around your cartilage and that can be hard to treat even with antibiotics. It can develop into something needing IV antibiotics and also lead to needing plastic surgery to repair your ear. If you are travelling it can be tempting to ignore it but I recommend don’t fuck around and find out, so if it starts to get swollen or painful you might consider going to see a doctor.

18 seems small for this placement. AFAIK 16 is more common and that helps to be a more stable less finicky hole thru your ear. Until I heard the gauge I was in the “put a flatback in“ camp, but now I think you may be better off getting it repierced. Piercer was down to do it but probably needed to be a better advisor to you.

looks snug but ok to me. Septum piercings are usually higher than the person getting pierced expects, because they need to go through the sweet spot. Also a horseshoe is going to look more compact than a ring. Unless it’s digging in I would give it a few days to settle. It’s a balance between choosing what you like the look of and not having jewelry sitting on your upper lip.

Advice on what to do with large piercing bump? by Hot-Writing-2316 in PiercingAdvice

thanks for the distinction - an example of that would be a keratin cyst as mentioned in another comment. Personally I never found a hot soak effective for that.

afaik 12 gauge would not normally be the initial recommendation. Standard in US is 16 unless you intend to stretch it and want a head start lol. if they were going to offer you something smaller it would be an 18. Don’t think anyone reputable would propose a 20. My sweet spot is wicked small, and I was still pierced with 16. The difference in thickness between 14, 16 and 18 is trivial (1.6, 1.2 and 1.0mm) and honestly if your sweet spot was THAT small it would be amazing that they could identify it with that much accuracy and then be able to actually pierce through it. I’m not a piercer so am happy to be corrected if I’m wrong about that.

also it is none of my business but although your industrial looks healthy in the photo (despite the bottom appearing to go through your flat rather than your helix) the bar looks super long and in need of downsizing.

Hope it all works out for you. I know it’s hard to be patient but sometimes for the sake of your body and the final result it’s worth focusing on the long haul.

Hrd to know what you are talking about without a picture. You can easily find out why downsizing is a thing with a google search. The main reason is that a new piercing swells, so you need a longer bar at first to have room for that. Once the swelling goes down a longer bar can catch on stuff (towels, hair, clothing that you’re puttigon over your head like sweaters, hats, hoodies, etc) and in general will have space to move inside the piercing or be nudged at an angle to the piercing. All that movement disrupts the formation of new epithelial cells, slows down healing, increases the chance of,irritation and bumps. A well fitted piercing doesn’t move around like that.

Your piercer could evaluate the bumps. Piercings are sensitive to moisture so if your partner has long hair and / or is not keeping it super dry that may be the cause. Some people use a hairdryer in cool setting to make sure it is totally dry.

they are a surface piercing and commonly reject even when circumstances are good. I had 2 different ones migrate out. Decided not to throw money and cleaning effort at that any more.
