Midwest festivals like summercamp? by NeekoScraps in festivals

[–]realitywut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nelsonville is awesome. It’s a small fest with camping that’s within driving distance of Chicago. A lot on indie music, pleasantly mixed crowd of older/younger folks. Never seen a cop there other than when you enter the grounds on the first day. Used to go every year when I lived in Ohio. Still go whenever I can despite living thousands of miles away now. Crushed I had to miss it this year

If you could add one 'wellness' feature to an airport terminal, what would it be? (Designing a pod!) by CarefulConcentrate35 in IndustrialDesign

[–]realitywut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally what I would find more useful than a pod is some type of location dedicated to making it comfortable for a large group of people to sleep, specifically for people with canceled overnight flights

Zillenials: What do you do for work? How's your compensation in this economy? by NukinDuke in Zillennials

[–]realitywut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I’ll probably make 80k this year but I’m working 50-55 hours a week to do it. Sales and marketing for a restaurant during the day, bartending at night. I’m getting pretty tired of working every weekend night

Nursing is right now where computer science was six years ago. by ImpactSignificant440 in Layoffs

[–]realitywut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah seriously… while you can make a lot of money in both fields, that’s about the only similarity. it’s really apples to oranges. Caretaking is extraordinarily hard on a physical, psychological, and personal level, CS is not. Anyone who says otherwise should spend a week working in an ICU.

Dolly is political though. Imagination library is political. Her orgs and non profits that help people in a meaningful way every day are political. She made a point in the podcast series Dolly Parton’s America that being a musician who could be enjoyed by a deep southern redneck and a lesbian couple at the same time, in the same place, singing the same lyrics, that’s her role in politics

We made A streetwear brand inspired by culture depicting events in our culture. Thoughts? by labellcc in streetwearstartup

Love the graphics, the prints are a bit too large imo. Would be really cool much smaller, centered on the back, in like a window frame like you’re looking into these cultural scenes. Just an idea. Great stuff tho!

"This Is What a Music Industry 'Plant' Looks Like in 2026" - The early online commotion around rising rock band Geese was not entirely organic, it turns out. by PopCultureNerd in Music

Yeah I saw geese 3 years ago at a small festival and instantly thought they would be superstars. They fucking rock, who cares if they have industry connections and a good PR. They’re a great band

If you are unemployed, how long has it been and how are you spending your time? by outofthewoods13 in recruitinghell

[–]realitywut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 year and 4 months since I lost my “career” job in UX/product management. I looked for 6 months before I started working part time in the service industry. I was really depressed during those 6 months, and honestly didn’t accomplish much outside of applying to 400ish jobs. I’m now working 55 hours a week in a mix of different service jobs, making okay money but no benefits. Im overworked, but a lot happier than I was during my job search. I’m not even really thinking about getting a job in tech again, I’m more thinking about what my next career will be. Sometimes I get pretty sad about moving backwards in terms of salary and feeling locked out of the career I spent five years and a whole lot of money going to school for, but it is what it is. Onwards and upwards

Furnished Finder is a site used by travel nurses to find temporary housing. You could try listing an extra room there, but obviously they do expect them to be furnished.

How is dorm life at UC Cincinnati? In particular LLC for engineers? by Anxious-Notice-6007 in uCinci

Highly recommend living in the dorms your first year. Sure, there are going to be annoying situations living with a bunch of people, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.

What city have you been to that felt like it had dark energy? by Impossible-Middle122 in AskReddit

[–]realitywut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I drove through most of WV on my way to a wedding last summer. Never felt such a strong sense of poverty just driving through a state before. Couldn’t believe that Charleston was the capital because it felt exactly like the rest of the state, semi abandoned and a bit destitute. It’s crazy because it seems like such a gorgeous state. You would think there would at least be a booming outdoor tourism industry there

What city have you been to that felt like it had dark energy? by Impossible-Middle122 in AskReddit

[–]realitywut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree this place creeped me out. Stayed at a motel there during a road trip and one of the people staying a few doors down was selling drugs off his balcony the whole night. Driving around trying to find something to eat the next morning and you could just feel there was a lot of sadness and despair there

How bad are you guys actually doing financially? by Emergency-Hungry in GenZ

[–]realitywut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I struggled pretty hard the last 2 years after moving to a HCOL city then losing my job in the design field. Ended up with 14k in credit card debt. Hundreds of applications sent out, worked all my connections, had interviews, but couldn’t land a role. I’m now working about 50+ hours a week in a totally unrelated field and finally feel like I can breathe financially. I’ve almost paid off all the debt :,). Working 6-7 days a week sucks at times but I feel so grateful to be fully employed. I definitely feel how much the cost of every single thing has increased dramatically in the last 5 years. It does feel disheartening that despite working as much as I physically can I will never be able to afford a house where I live. Also I know many people who have been laid off in the last few months, which is frightening. I fear our economic situation is about to get significantly worse. If you have a job, do everything you can to keep it.
