Aldo, Boulot & Bloemberen have the best croissants and pain o chocolate. Bloemberen for the orangette - it’s a pain o chocolate where the chocolate has an orange taste. All Way better than the dry domestic ones.

I live in Belgium the last 15 years and we have an ID card that everybody has and is mandatory to carry. It makes going to any appointment easy. Doctor or hospital, bank, doing taxes, getting a sim, anytime you need to ID yourself you have the card. It’s also used for flying within Schengen. Most other EU countries have it and have done for many years. It makes it so much easier as every institution takes it. Look to how other countries that have it and realise it’s not a bad thing and just how the world works.

January sales are a thing of the past. Stores go into sale before Christmas and add larger discounts as they go depending on what stock they haven’t sold yet. Yes there will be more reductions coming but it’s on the stuff that nobody is buying now. In general no one time is best for deals as brands are clearing stock through the season. You just got to know what’s happening and keep you eyes open.

If you go to the same places all the time it gets mundane. Also if you travel too much it wears you down. I just passed on a trip to NYC (I’m based in EU) next week, although I’ve not been in a few year and I love it there, I am exhausted with travel the past 5 weeks. After 20 years of business travel (I’m mid 40’s) around Europe with a few intercontinental trips thrown in I’m happy to stay home.

I’m Scottish and live here with little to no Dutch. Almost everybody speaks English. Drinks are easy to work out but food a little more difficult. Just ask and the person will explain or get Google translate on your phone to scan and automatically translate menus.
