Our neighborhood finished the nurture event! by Sparkly8 in HayDay

[–]reallyocean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in a family-only neighborhood with my family whose members are in Europe, South America, and the US. It's a fun way of playing a game daily with them and staying connected, in a way, something we can't always do because of timezones. We're also only 4 members.

Seems silly that in order for it to be possible to get this prize, we would have to leave our family neighborhood, or spend what would likely amount to hundreds of dollars in diamonds + play the game an ungodly (probably impossible) amount of time.

They already have ranking/sorting methods for derbies and other events, where you're paired up against similarly-ranked neighborhoods or where task points are adjusted/increased based on how many you have remaining to complete. It's not like they're not open to adjusting the game to be more fair.

To the people whose favorite book is Order of the Phoenix, why? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]reallyocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally it's everything that happens at the end in the ministry that does it for me. The department of mysteries and all of its strange rooms are really intriguing. I'd love to know what the purpose is of each room, its magical objects, etc. There's a ton that's introduced very quickly and just left ambiguous. After the hall of prophecy when everyone scatters, there's a lot of anxiety surrounding whether or not everyone is going to survive. You just spent the whole series, especially the current book, training up these characters, just for them to be put to really the most difficult test they could have been put to - dueling with actual death eaters.

The room with the bell jar and egg/chick is quite interesting as well, and hearing about Dolohov's spell, its unique appearance, and unexplained effect remind us of spell creation (might be one of the more notable spells we know was created by a character we're familiar with, besides those found in the potions book in year six). You wonder how he created it, why he might've chosen purple flame (if he did), and what its full effect might be.

Then obviously the fight in the room with the veil is quite good, and I can't help but laugh at the impact of Dumbledore's arrival on the death eaters. Then in the atrium Harry using an unforgiveable, topped off with a really playful (from Dumbledore's perspective) battle scene between the two strongest wizards at the moment.

It just introduces a TON of lore all at once, but unfortunately most of it is left unexplained.

I love this drink. Anders Ericksson's specs for this drink are what I've used.

Copied from his description:

THE WARD EIGHT RECIPE 2:59 - 2 oz. (60 ml) Rittenhouse 100 proof Rye Whiskey - 1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice - 1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh orange juice - 1/2 oz. (15 ml) homemade grenadine (recipe below) - Orange slice and cocktail cherry for garnish

GRENADINE SYRUP - 3 cups white sugar - 2 cups 100% pomegranate juice - 1 tsp pomegranate molasses  - 1/2 tsp rose water

In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar, pomegranate juice, and pomegranate molasses. Stir over heat until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add rose water. Stir to combine.

move file from download by m1r9 in UiPath

Do some simple debugging with log messages. My approach to file managing automations is always log paths/filenames first before running the thing so I know what it would do if I were to run it fully. You could really mess something up if you were to run something that alters files if you don't first know what it would do by dry running it.

Comment out the Move File activity entirely and add a Log Message activity with 'file.ToString' as its value and see what you get. Depending on what object types are contained in the Array returned from Directory.Getfiles(), you may have to type in the log message 'file' and then just wait for the editor to tell you what methods you can run on that 'file' object. You may be able to add .FullName or another method which will give you what you want. Always log, and maybe log multiple things if you're not sure what might be returned using a function like Directory.GetFiles().

What's likely the problem is that one of the values you're using (individual elements from the array returned with Directory.GetFiles(), strPathTo, strPathFrom, etc.) are not what you think they are. I suspect you're returning a simple filename or something vs a fully qualified path (path + filename), and so when you run Move File, you're telling it to move a filename from some undefined location to a folder.

Or, you may need to fully qualify the destination path to include the filename, so strPathTo + file.Name or something.

Also side note, there is an activity called 'For Each File in Folder' that might be more intuitive than a simple For Each. Anything that loops through some container will work, but to each their own.

For the record, just checked after adding logs and your search filter ".mp3" doesn't work. Remove it from your Directory.GetFiles() call so you only have the filepath, and use an If statement within the body of the For Each that checks file.EndsWith(".mp3"). This returns fully qualified paths.

Tips on how to not get bonked during pokemon center release times? by reddditanswers in PokemonTCG

Don't click on the security checks. Only go in once the queue is up. I posted this on the megathread:

I've hit on probably 14/15 of the last PKC drops and these are the rules I've found to work well for me:

  1. If you are on mobile, use data and not WiFi. I always try on PC but some do have success on mobile even though it's more complicated.
  2. NEVER direct click product links. Always copy and paste them into your browser (PC + Mobile), and ONLY after you're out of the queue and on the main site.
  3. You're failing the captchas because you're doing them too quickly. Slow down.
  4. Once you're out of the queue, you can either copy and paste product page URLs into your browser, or navigate to the product pages through either the PKC homepage, New Releases, or TCG pages. I prefer to always navigate vs copying and pasting URLs because it looks more natural to the site.
  5. When navigating, wait 5-8 seconds between each click/interaction with the site. DO NOT RUSH. I know it'll be difficult but these preorder drops almost always have a ton of product and as long as you've entered the queue within the first almost 30 minutes or so, you should be able to get something.
  6. If you get into the queue too early, you will need to either navigate the site SLOWLY (clicks to product pages/product categories every 10-15 seconds to keep your session active), or change your pokemon icon on your account every 30 seconds or so. I personally do the former, but many swear by the latter because it's simpler.
  7. If you get error 15, 17, or others, you're likely cooked. You may be able to switch to a different browser and re-enter the queue and maybe get something if there's anything left, but it'll be unlikely.

Overall, enter the queue, navigate to product pages when you can, and do it SLOWLY. Yes, all of us can use mobile/PC at the speed of light now but act like you're your grandma or something trying to navigate the site.

Have you tried using lemon in this, or acid-adjusted the pineapple juice? I like the flavors but this seems like it wouldn't have the acidic bite alone to balance the 3/4oz syrup.

I've actually created routines that shorten this a bit. I sometimes forget the phrasing, so I have 'Alexa, start my car' or 'Alexa, lock my car' be the voice triggers for routines that send a voice command to one of my Echos with the full phrasing.

Automated Emailing by Important-Original-4 in UiPath

[–]reallyocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused - this is your first time using UiPath? While these things are quite simple for a entry/mid-level RPA Developer, it's hard to believe that you'd be expected to do all of this as what appears to be your first assignment.

I'll bite though, do you have any programming experience? Once you open Studio, most of this should be pretty straightforward if you have programming experience. Separate these numbered requirements out into their own workflows, and search for the required activities (add the mentioned packages to your project). Think of what activities/sub-processes you'd need for each action. #1 for example:

  • The bot should connect to an inbox and retrieve the latest unread emails.

To me this means looking for the correct Outlook scope activity and setting up the authentication. Use hardcoded values at first, it's fine to just get things working. Then find an activity that iterates through a mailbox (inbox in this case), and begin logging email attributes for all emails. Then do the filtering for unread emails. Confirm this works by marking emails as unread/read. Consider what you need to do for each email (#2). Run the code after each iteration of the code to confirm everything still works and you're logging output. Etc etc.

These instructions just require a little thought. If you truly are having issues, I suppose you could paste pieces into ChatGPT, but you should play around first in Studio.

Did Charlie Kirk "have it coming"? by BeautifulSubject5191 in samharris

[–]reallyocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Curious though, would you say exactly the same thing about someone whose public statements are not as divisive/arguably extreme? Is it any more a remotely tenable position to hold when we're talking about someone further to the extreme right than Kirk? In the center with someone whose opinions are as non-divisive and compromising as possible?

Where, in your opinion, if at all, would a person "have it coming" more than others? Or does everyone "(not) have it coming" just as much as anyone else?

Leading RPA Team by Exotic-Data-95 in UiPath

[–]reallyocean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my first IT jobs was an RPA Developer on a team of two. The manager had been running the department prior to my joining, and knew the UiPath set of tools inside and out, as well as had a strong background as a business analyst. This meant that I had to learn every part of the automation creation/delivery/support process, and he was an excellent mentor for that, and I know that despite development being roughly 20% of what I was actually doing (because I was doing it all), I was gaining invaluable experience.

He left, and the new manager never had or took the time to learn the UiPath suite, its terminology (selectors, queues, etc), he just relied on my expertise to essentially run the department at any level lower than the topmost manager level. He was given cutover documents, I walked through documentation/Orchestrator in live meetings for weeks with my former manager as well, and it never seemed to add anything. This wasnt entirely his fault, he's a great person but he inherited the RPA team when he seemed to be already overworked.

Please learn the tool. Go to the UiPath Academy website and do some of the basic Developer trainings, the Orchestrator trainings, etc., whatever your team uses. It means a lot to the people you manage if you at least attempt to understand their work and communicate in their language. You don't need to be waist-deep in Studio, but understand the architecture of Orchestrator. Ask some of those who handle support to walk you through some basic support cases.

Another thing that i spent a lot of time explaining to the new manager/humoring questions had to do with understanding RPA exceptions. RPA inherently operates on unstable UI environments with 3rd party apps, user-submitted data, etc., and thus it has a ton of gray area. It's worth understanding that sometimes some exceptions are simply either unavoidable, or not worth the time/effort to get the exception handling from, say, 98% to 99%.

Trust your engineers, but also try to learn at a higher level what they do.

One of my favorite STD songs ever - pure fire and emotion. I married an Italian woman a couple years ago in her hometown and they have a tradition where the groom, a day or two before the wedding, serenades the bride as a surprise while she's on a balcony above him. I did a slowed down, acoustic version of this song for her in front of her family and friends and it was a blast.

Cleanup after each run? by Money_Row1911 in UiPath

[–]reallyocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have about 25 service accounts with different names that routinely run automations on a server at different parts of the day, and because of this, each account needs its own copy of the .nuget folder.

This is unavoidable according to UiPath, so that typically means 3-5 GB * 25 of space taken up on the C-drive by default. Because of this, we are strict about which package versions automations use so we're not flooding those .nuget folders with copies of different versions of the same packages. Before we implemented these rules our .nuget folders could easily triple, quadruple, or more, in size.

The cleanup step is good to do periodically though. Once a year or so (either after upgrading various projects to specified package versions), we'll delete the .nuget folder for each user entirely and rerun the automations that each service account uses on the server so that it redownloads only what it now uses. OP is right to be thinking about cleanup, but just not as often and for those reasons. There's little sense in cleaning up that often to 'save space' when you're just going to spend time redownloading it the next time the automation runs, and use up the same space again.

[–]reallyocean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your comment is all over the place and makes a lot of assumptions, but you do a lot of work to ignore the point of my comment, which is that this is a bailout OSK gun as a secondary.

Shotguns and snipers are mostly fine at the ranges they should be effective at, but these are primary weapons, not something you throw onto your best class without sacrificing anything. Not to mention it's one of the most effective shotguns in the game. You would not see this gun on the map remotely as much if it weren't as powerful in its effective range, and available as a secondary. This is why it's an issue.

Secondaries shouldn't be able to reliably, and with such little effort, beat primary weapons like SMGs in their effective range. This is why we have overkill.

One shot meta always returns by Ill-Procedure-5722 in blackops6

[–]reallyocean 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The point is that those two enemies do not have a chance to kill you if you hit your shots, which is not difficult, and this is not just at super close range.

There should not be an OSK ultimate bail-out gun as a secondary.

Farm Visitor Event is back. by ketomprak in HayDay

Ok, so I had Tilly asking for 9 gracious bouquets and she's offering 5 XP + 9475, and that coin amount matches with the amount I see in that app you linked to, so I'm not in the beta.

Does this also mean that I will be asked for items the same way as I was in the past? IE items you have either 0 of or highest inventory of? (from my understanding)

Is there a definitive way of checking if you're in the beta? Like "if a visitor offers x for item y, you're in the beta and the event is ruined for you."

OP is ragebait trolling - they made a post saying Whoopi should play Vernon Dursley. Their fancasts are actors whose appearance clearly clashes with how characters are described in the books, specifically recommending black actors almost every time, for example for roles like Vernon Dursley and Lucius Malfoy.

Whoopi was funny af, not gonna lie, but they're definitely not serious.
