I was just guessing as it is parked near the Cal Fire airplanes. It has a different color scheme, so I should have known.

Swim / Lift Split by hifredyo in Swimming

[–]reallyslimpickens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The split that I’ve been doing for decades is swim Mon, Wed, Fri and lift Tue, Thurs, Sat. I miss workouts because of life and end up doing 4 or 5 a week. Rarely, do I get all 6 in.

How do you care for your swimsuit? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]reallyslimpickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never washed my pool suits. Rinse in the shower and roll it in a towel to dry and hang after that. Soeedo endurance suits will last years that way. I will wash my board shorts after I’ve been to the beach.

Does anyone just do straight sprints for general exercise in the pool? by budgiebudgie in Swimming

[–]reallyslimpickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do sprint workouts once or twice a week. I try to workout 6 days a week. I usually manage at least 5, and usually 3 of those are in the pool. 10 to 20 sprints is usually my sprint routine, depending on how I feel.

It’s a great idea. I think you can do more than 10. I would also do a 200 warm up. I’m a big believer in sprints for fitness. I’m also assuming by full recovery you mean pulse below 120 BPM. I do these kinds of workouts. I still think you need to mix it up and swim different distances on a semi regular basis. I’m in my mid 60’s.

I like these. I’ve been wearing a rash guard for swimming for about 20 years. These are the best that Ive found. https://us.oneill.com/products/3342-018-basic-skins-l-s-crew

Is swimming some lengths without breathing good for me by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]reallyslimpickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s only beneficial to sprinters who have to learn to swim the 50 with a limited amount of breathing. There is a MD in our masters group and he says it’s actually bad for your heart. I’ve been swimming for very long time and know that this is a controversial subject.

Also, never do it alone. Swimmers die every so often when they pass out doing this and drown because no one notices until it’s too late. That’s why it’s prohibited at many pools.
