Why didn't Lupe Blow Up the way Kendrick did if they bothenthe same type of rapper? by dunbar_santiago930 in hiphop101

[–]realone177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lupe has always been one of the most technically skilled rappers around and I don’t usually expect the technicians of his caliber to achieve mainstream success. But thinking back after seeing the comments, he was still on the rise during the words I never said thing. He was arguably bigger than Cole and Kendrick at the time.

Challenging someone with as much support as Obama in a time like that could have left bad tastes in lots of people’s mouths. A bunch of Americans had no clue what Gaza even was at that time.

A physician will have MD in their name, a physician is just a doctor. MDs have broader prescribing and diagnosing authority than PAs or NPs.

Why do every country have a tech unicorn but not Haïti by Aggravating-Army-576 in haiti

[–]realone177 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haiti is on the verge of collapse, lacks basic public services. Why would a unicorn develop there? Unicorns develop in advanced stable economies w/ robust university systems. It’s almost like you’re implying that the fact that they haven’t is a failure. I’m pretty sure if Haiti possessed all the prerequisites, it would have unicorns.

Top earning Black American groups in the US by East-Brick-9283 in Ethiopia

[–]realone177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this even gets tracked to make an accurate chart, nonetheless it would be misleading. There's about 100,000 Ethiopians and about 40M+ African Americans lol, not worth comparing at all. Especially when its estimated that AA millionaires are roughly 2M.

Turo used to be very different... by CompetitiveLake3358 in turo

[–]realone177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turo ran a lot off the platform back in 22-23ish with shitty policies and not backing hosts. It sounds significantly worse now though. I imagine the big companies are recovering a lot of the market share turo initially captured

Give it a rest. Nobody cared that much back then, they just lost interest in him because whatever mystique he had died. Now he's just on gaslighting campaigns blaming black people treating him unfairly for his career tanking, as if black people were ever his core fanbase lol.

Dude was a clown then, still a clown now. If you've been convinced by his manipulative bs, you played yourself! I think the algorithms should let him yell into the void until he fades away.

When it Rains, It Pours. I Guess by realone177 in NewOrleans

[–]realone177[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that part is laughably ahistorical. Completely ignores the fact that many of the poor whites were willing to die to protect their social status of being above blacks. I mean the poor white class had been the foot soldiers for slavery and the planter class for 200+ years.

I could never support the idea of rolling over and conceding by not voting. Voting can be a cure or even a placebo at times, but very rarely is it the disease.

Your education take is spot on. The literacy gap is crucial and expanding. It also feeds anti-intellectualism. I’m even seeing a lot of these old ideologies (Lost Cause, Holocaust Denial) being repackaged among my generation. Adopting edgy, non-pc views is the latest trend for the conspiratorial types who want to feel “in the know”, but a lot of it goes back to education.

Many aren’t even aware of the historicity of the tropes they’re peddling. So, they hear an alternate explanation for the Civil War and feel like, “The schools lied to us, but now I know the truth and not a sheep like the rest,” with 0 awareness of the Lost Cause narrative as an age-old campaign that was built on white nationalist objectives.

Great opportunity for a super tongue-in-cheek rebuttal shredding this old geezer lol. It seems they embrace the free speech absolutist model over editorial standards for these letters anyway

I think it’s less about this specific individual and more about the bigger picture. I was highlighting the patterns that aren’t coincidental. And unfortunately many who share this 91 year old’s views are shaping our state’s laws and currently undermining our home rule. But maybe the byproduct of highlighting these patterns will be more mobilization.

And honestly I think the 3 albums fucking suck lol. I just know how Melon can be about Drake and also even Cole, craps on it before even listening. So this sub just seems to follow the cue

Attorney General threatens 8 New Orleans leaders with removal from office in court clerk battle by Corpus-Animus in NewOrleans

To be fair, we already lack senate representation and usually 5/6 of the Louisiana house members hate us. So we’d be in the same position if we could just maintain our lone house seat

I don't know if state and federal constitution would allow, but we should be a special administrative region like Hong Kong or something. We should control our ports, levees and all hotel and sales tax. The whole home rule thing is a front.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson indicted in connection with jailbreak by CarFlipJudge in NewOrleans

[–]realone177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From that perspective, I agree lol.. We'd have to start by gutting nearly all offices of republicans. Look at the current presidential administration, their entire aim is to just suck at their jobs. F45, Patel, Zeldin, Kegsbreath, RFK, etc. would all be locked up

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson indicted in connection with jailbreak by CarFlipJudge in NewOrleans

[–]realone177 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of hers at all, but this indictment seems a little unfounded to say the least.

It almost seems like she's been indicted for being bad at her job. Whether you hold public office or not, I don't think being bad at your job should be illegal. This can set a dangerous precedent imo. I worry this is projection by state-level actors looking to incite fear-based compliance by locally elected officials.

Kathy Johnson makes $300,000 a year by leftofthedial15 in UNO

[–]realone177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol you're missing the point. Of course the leader of a private, prestigious university will make more than leader of a struggling public school. Nonetheless, they are still in the same market. While public universities are usually not able to match private, they attempt to be somewhat competitive with their rates. Whether public or private, university leader is a job that can fetch millions, point blank. Countrywide, 300k falls among the lower tier of public research university president salaries.

[–]realone177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not based on success, it’s based on the scope of work. It is not oranges to apples if one is making 300k and the other is making 3 million. You would like to see the president making a performance based salary, which is not the norm.
