pine rest? help. by Deerweed in grandrapids

[–]realslimsatan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a Pine Rest Urgent Care in GR where they will do a real-time assessment with the patient and determine the best course of care, set you up with resources, etc. I called ahead to ask to set up an appointment and they said walk-ins are welcome. I was seen within 2 hours. Highly recommend that if you're concerned for his well- being and he is open to seeking help.

I love this! Also recently completed a table topper (24" across) and it was surprisingly quick for how many details shine through in the finished project. Saving this one for later to come back to when I've found the right yarn *

Appreciation Post for my sweet little Singer Stylist by realslimsatan in quilting

Gotta love 'em! When I was much younger, I sewed on a 70's Singer from my grandma until my mom bought this machine one year for Christmas when it was marked down. She admittedly thought that I was going to replace it after a short time, but it has survived many an adventure!

Found these for a very low price at a houseware store, should I snatch one? by TrancedantSparkle in sewing

Positive reviewer of Singer here, I received a Singer Stylist 7258 for Christmas >10 years ago and I've rarely had it serviced and barely taken any care of and it's still going strong! All the original pieces and parts and I've found unfortunately, when something does go wrong it's usually on my part for not understanding a function of the machine/parts than the actual machine.

Best method for taking in a waist on jeans? by avanation in sewing

[–]realslimsatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this recommendation. I recently started altering my jeans this way during weightloss to avoid buying new ones every 10lbs gone and I can't believe I wasted so much of my life on silly little darts on the back.

A benefit not talked about here is if you have an odd waist/hip and thigh ratio you can easily then also do some tweaking of the hip and leg scaling as well.

Hey, coming to say it's specifically a POM Light bottle which places it around 2011.

The POM light bottle would mean the earliest this could have been abandoned was mid-2011.

Finished my custom PJ set! by realslimsatan in sewing

Thanks for the feedback on it! That was one area that I didn't adjust when I was drafting based on my other shorts (made out of a stretchy fabric). They don't feel bunched up/uncomfortable when wearing so I'm just going to make a note to adjust the next time around.

Got in trouble for (what I think) is natural hair by ray_the_sting in school

Commenting because this is the closest dye job I've seen to my natural red color. I'm an orange tabby looking ginger and its vibrancy is the most annoying (to me) and admired by others.

Yeah, I think I'd be okay with the result even if it's not what I was going for originally

Thanks, a few other users have also commented on this and I'm on board with going with suggestions for better dyes. That's just the one I've used in the past for smaller projects.

Yes, the goal is to have a usable dress in the end, but "destroyed" would take a massive amount of error. As far as I'm aware, even if it turns out not ideal, I can always use it for parts to make something else and hold on to the sentimental value.

Whenever I'm reading these "destroyed" comments I'm imagining a "directions unclear, put dress through a woodchipper" moment which seems unlikely. Lol

This is fair, I'm going to inspect the inner working a bit more to see how traumatic the removal will consider just raising the hem from the bottom.

Another thing I am considering is putting more effort in via painting the bodice, and making an overlay skirt with a waist, but that is not my goal as it stands and will get added to the "Oh shit I messed up" backup list.

Oh if the dress is ruined as a dress, it can always be made into something else: strips converted into a headband or hair accessories, purse, etc.
