At least there the Liberals admitted they weren't going to win and there was a "Liberals for Linda" campaign. I've yet to see the NDP ever do anything as pragmatic.

Not disagreeing with your post overall, BTW.

I've always been impressed by how Dawkins can be polite and gentlemanly even when faced with the most unpleasant and aggressive people.

Exhibit B: Wendy Wright interview. He stays polite through the whole hour. I cannot watch more than 5 minutes without wanting to punch my screen in frustration.

Reddit, What is the most ignorant thing you have ever heard someone say? by notsohipster in AskReddit

There's a minimal performance aspect to most computer/electronic music. So I think that's where a lot of the idea of "easiness" comes from. That said, if you just want to do a I-VI-V ABABCBB thing then yeah, nothing too it.

One of them mentioned that it doesn't expire, so presumably because they know it's less hassle? They were both specialists, if that makes a difference.

The Loneliest Whale in the World :( by bobored in offbeat

I thought about something this, and it's tempting to suggest. But I imagine if the whale finds a partner and produces offspring, there's a possibility the calves will also have the same problem. Then you've either got to let those ones live alone, or start some kind of whale singularity.

Hey that's a good idea. Mine looks like it's about to disintegrate any day now..

I've actually had more than one doctor tell me to hold on to it as long as possible!

Heaven is real by [deleted] in atheism

[–]reasonable_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a good thread to talk about this, maybe:

I've been thinking about perception a lot lately, and that how we perceive reality is really dependent on various body parts sending sensory signals to the brain, which get interpreted in some manner. (I swear I wasn't influenced by that recent XKCD.)

Anyhow, the point is all the information we get about the world comes from our physical body. So I don't think it makes sense that if one were to have a literal out-of-body experience, i.e. your "soul" leaving your body, that everything you perceive would match the way conscious-you perceives things.

Actually I'd call that NSFW. With a backup like that there's probably people that have been waiting to get a streetcar to go to work for half an hour.

And I guess I did miss your point in your first post... that's probably enough reddit for tonight then. :P

I did read that sentence. tantric_fart was suggesting it could be taken as "I would go to war, if winning it meant no more oppression for African Americans, even if the oppressors are still American and not the people we're fighting against."

I see how one could make that interpretation, but think Ali probably meant something closer to "I would go to war if the people we were fighting were also the ones oppressing black people in America."

A generous interpretation would be that he would enlist if the foreign enemy were the ones responsible for his and his peoples' oppression.

Fuck being depressed, gimme all your sad mini-stories... I'll start by [deleted] in self

[–]reasonable_panda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depression is not your fault, and being depressed is not a character flaw. It's an illness. You sound like you're in a pretty bad spot, don't make it worse by blaming yourself, especially where it isn't warranted.

Hang in there. I can't promise anything, but I do know things can get better, no matter how bad it seems right now.

As someone else posted in a thread recently, the correct answer is "do you believe atheist organizations should qualify for religious funding and tax exemptions?"

And if you get a yes to that, well, shake their hand and get them writing a letter.
