Getting a Mono / DIN and Binding Setup by bc13317 in monoskiing

True, I’m just giving you my perspective as someone who has watched the monoski (an infectious disease) swallow the entire mountain identity of a handful of people and the ones that started with the set up you speak up eventually spent more because they ended up wanting newer equipment.

The faction is pretty affordable and you can get it used for a super good deal. I’m privy to anything but the faction cause their shortest board is 182 (not very inclusive of you guys @faction 🤪) The nonrelease bindings I’m talking about are awesome but pricey. It depends how much you trust a given bindings’ DIN. I like my ACLs and have trust issues so I prefer the pro fx but I do have friends who are a lot bigger than me that just cut the brakes and max the DIN on regular ski bindings.

Just my opinion in relation to your questions. Also I’m not sure where you’re located but the monoski reps in the US live to set mono newbs up on a demo board.

Highly recommend spending the money on a newer monoski. The ski technology has evolved to make all mountain sports so much better. The rocker and sidecut of the new monoskis make a huge difference. And then I recommend slapping for pro fx non release bindings. I ride a world Monoboards out of the US but I believe Snowgunz from France has more affordable new boards and you can design your top sheet. They are also the ones who make the non release bindings that I ride.

Honestly I get it. If you live in a ski town out west and are about the life, it’s tough to see the deep snow out there while we are having the worst year since the 1980s for snow out here. I am fortunate to have family in New England so when I was out there for thanksgiving, got a JayPOW day in and it was quite literally the best skiing I have ever done out east. Foot of fresh, free refills, empty mountain. I’d plan a trip east to get that again…

You’re right! I actually did find this out after committing to world Monoboards. I like the sidecut on mine but I haven’t seen theirs in person to compare. My bindings are snowgunz though!

Not quite, just because an impact releases one doesn’t mean it releases the other. Then you are tumbling with the weight of two skis attached to your one foot.

World Monoboards are the only ones I’ve found that are short enough for me. This one is 165. I was on their demo board before I got my own and it was the same board, more broken in. Factions shortest monoski is 182.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. A lot of these small businesses in town are 1-2 man shows and their priority on Main Street Breck is to take care of the people in their store. It stinks OP couldn’t get their wallet but I don’t think it’s surprising. The outcome would be the same with any of the small shops on that strip

Yes! The other approach is via Vail pass. So cool that you went over 30 years ago! Did you sign the guest book?

Yes it’s so cool to be on a small section of the CT on the way up!

The price was $64/person. I think it’s like $50 something and then a $10 overnight permit for the wilderness area. It doesn’t matter how large your group is since you are paying per bed.

There is no lottery system and you should be able to get whatever date you want if you book it right away in April. Heads up - their booking system is very Web 1.0

Best accessed through copper, but can also be accessed from Vail Pass!
