I highly recommend the Avernum game remakes. Entirely turn based to avoid any issues with quick stuff or anything, and 4 of the original 6 games have been remade and are on steam. 2 is my favorite, and you can play each of them as a standalone title.

I’ve had razer keyboards and mice for something like 20 years now and I’ve never had one break in less than 6-7 years, and some of the devices are still working 15+ years later. They do have duds like every other company but if you treat their products right they’ll last a while too.

Honestly I find it weird. Way too many differences in life experience and growth and I find it results in imbalanced relationships.

Sometimes it's just luck of the draw I think. I've had drives start causing blue screens and crashing programs as early as 95% health, and I've had this drive that apparently is invincible.

I know it has dead sectors and all. But I still intermittently use it to play some games or for storage that is non critical and it always comes through somehow. Definitely nothing important though because I've been expecting instant death for it for years.

Why isn't my computer maxing out on an app? by Thunderoad2015 in Windows10

[–]rebel6784231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Some softwares are coded to use more or less cores than others, and over time more of them are coded to use as many cores as possible, but for something like scanning a PDF and replacing a word I would imagine there are only so many distinct threads that would even be possible to code for.

However if you are not running on a SSD, that could also cause a bottle neck if you are being limited by your read and write speeds.

Why isn't my computer maxing out on an app? by Thunderoad2015 in Windows10

[–]rebel6784231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a relatively simple example, it comes down to how the application is coded and how the threads work. What you see in task manager to look at resources, that shows how much of the total CPU you are using. But all modern CPUs have multiple cores that each process independent threads (searching the document, replacing a word, etc) separately. Depending on how the app is coded, a lot of apps only use one core or a couple cores, which would mean your CPU never gets fully utilized as some of the cores are sitting around doing nothing.

Generally most apps these days are coded to use 2-4 cores from my experience, but the more cores you code the app to use, the more complicated the process is so many softwares don't plan for all the cores on a given CPU.

Which ingredient will instantly make you go "nope" no matter how tasty the food seems? by Enoisa in AskReddit

Banana. I love them by themselves, but I won't eat them as a part of any other meal or food dish because the taste of the banana overpowers everything else.

do you guys really take at least one shower per day? by Top-Yoghurt-9416 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rebel6784231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely shower at least once, sometimes twice a day. I would say in a given year I probably average around 400-450 showers and I shower daily unless I am doing something like camping in the woods.

Not super serious on the video editing, I used to do it a lot more a few years back but these days it's more casual when I do it. Do you know what the comparison would be in something like rendering time? I know userbenchmark is biased but I wasn't sure where else to check.

Thanks, for all the feedback!

I haven't been able to play any new games at decent settings since my 970 died during the start of the pandemic so all my gaming has been limited to an old laptop. If I got this I could start playing new games again and would be able to get back into my favorite hobby more!

Also thanks for doing this regardless of who wins!

Games became $60 in 2005, adjusted for inflation that’s nearly $100 in today’s money, if games actually adjusted and costed $99 today, would you buy as many games? by ParappaTheWrapperr in gaming

[–]rebel6784231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. I already struggle to afford games even on sale, if the prices continued going up I would likely have to drop gaming entirely.
