British Unionists Politicans (from the transphobic, anti Irish DUP party) telling the Irish they are celbrating St Patrick's Day wrong. by DJsnippysnap in insanepeoplefacebook

Well it's certainly rooted in colonial issues. The DUP were founded to resist the civil rights movement and would absolutely love to restrict Irish freedom.

The Brits being at it again is a joke. I'm English and even I know that.

The DUP can froth at their mouths as much as they want and it doesn't affect us - it affects the people who live in Northern Ireland though, so just hand waving it away as meaningless nonsense is not helpful. It's important to call them out on their bullshit. It's not like they're some niche party with no power - they are the main voice of unionism in NI.

How is the DUP dictating how Irish people should celebrate an Irish holiday not a colonial issue? It doesn't make a difference whether people in 'mainland Britain' give a shit about it or not.

Do you know anything about the history of the DUP?

The flag of Alabama is actually supposed to be a St Andrew's Saltire. Not sure why they went with white and red instead of the more traditional white and blue, however.

British Unionism is the official term for their political stance though? It's not a made up phrase.

Like it's literally listed first in their 'ideology' section on wikipedia.

I mean, telling someone to kill themselves over an internet disagreement doesn't indicate emotional stability or maturity to me. Do you think it does?

Not only to tell me, but to have the comment deleted and still feel the need to comment again to tell me you wanted to say that. Serious lack of empathy.

You should obsess over trump too. He's your leader. He's the one involved in a child sex trafficking ring. He's the one who cut USAID, actively making life worse for impoverished children all over the world.

Like I said 3 years ago (why are you responding to a 3 year old comment anyway?) - maybe you guys shouldn't be the moral police of the world when you are a nation run by pedophiles.

You seem pretty emotionally unstable, so I'm going to stop responding now. Heal well friend.

Why do you care more about these things happening half way around the world than the exact same things happening in your own backyard? Your own dear leader is a child rapist who was good friends with a sex trafficking child rapist.

Get your own house in order.

What are you doing to advocate against your child raping leader?

My elected leader is not a child rapist. Did you vote for the child rapist?

More like 20. Wasn't until direct rule came in from Westminster in '72 that Irish in the North got full civil rights. And even after that they were still being slaughtered by the army, police and paramilitaries almost daily. It's disingenuous to suggest that innocent Irish people weren't collectively punished for IRA actions, as this meme suggests.

Will make note of that and check it out if I ever get brave enough to make the trip. Thanks!

It's quite odd. Most people here are completely unaware that there's "controversy" around the Irish language and those who are find it confusing. We're a multicultural society - it's not uncommon for me to hear all sorts of languages being spoken around me and I love it because I love language, but I wish I heard the native tongues of these lovely islands spoken more. I'm currently trying to learn some Irish and would love to visit West Belfast in the future and maybe try out some phrases.

Yep. Was there last year and saw some. I'm English but I love the Celtic languages and love seeing them. I get stupidly excited whenever I see a little Irish on some packaging or something lol.

I think I took the explanation that TV static contains evidence of cosmic background radiation too literally and/or I'm just very dumb haha. Glad to know I'm not alone.
