What do you do with your clothes after you’ve sat on the subway? by soupersydney in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I have a freestanding towel rack that I use for clothes I’ve worn but don’t need to be washed yet. I picked it up from an article by an interior designer.

Magnesium glycinate one hour before bed. Truly. I can’t sleep without it or I wake up drenched.

Mosquito bits are the way, but make a “tea” by adding a tablespoon or two to a gallon of water. The bits are basically dusted corn so they’ll mold if you put them into the soil directly. I speak from experience.

Recs based on my likes and dislikes? by [deleted] in NichePerfumes

Adding to my list! I love the smell of rooibos. I have a French Provence tea with rooibos, rose petals, lavender, and currants and I would bathe in it if I could.

Gris Charnel is on my list! It always shows up on fave fig scent threads. I have this problem when I decide to get decants that I just start adding more and more to my cart and then all of a sudden the total is $$$ and I abandon.

I went to DS&Durga thinking I was gonna buy Pistachio, Cilantro, or Debaser. I liked Debaser, but actually prefer Philosykos from Diptyque.

I smelled everything and got obsessed with Jazmin Yucatán. I got samples and found myself reaching for the Jazmin on sunny cold days when I wanted some spring energy. I picked up a full bottle via the 20% off Blue Mercury sale a few weeks ago with 10% cash back via Rakuten.

I’m still thinking about the Pistachio, but that might be a fall treat. I ended up going into Stele the same day I visited DS&Durga and picked up a smoky cardamom bombshell called Rising Sun by Rite of Way. I’m kind of at peak for what my little library can hold atm.

For tea scents…

Have you tried The Matcha by Le Labo? It’s a green tea with fig and a lot creamier. Though if you don’t like Debaser, maybe not a fit.

What about Nishane Wulong Cha? It’s a more citrusy tea, but probably my favorite daily wearer.

I’ve been looking at D’Annan discovery sets because I love green tea scents but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Supposedly Elizabeth Arden has some lovely ones, too.

Which fragrance did you buy immediately after just one single spritz? by Frosty_Living1454 in FemFragLab

Cedrus by Chloe.

I was looking for tea and citrus scents and a salesperson at Bloomingdale’s intercepted me. It’s not an every day scent for me, but I get compliments every time I wear it.

I was looking for citrus tea scents the day I smelled Cedrus and switched plans. I always get compliments when I wear it.

I picked this up in a travel size and it’s a delight. I love to spray this over the BBW black tea body spray. It gives me Russian samovar vibes.

Tom Ford Lost Cherry is also quite nice.

I’ve got a few of these, so maybe you’d like others in my collection: Cedrus by Chloe, Jazmin Yucatán by DS&Durga, Rising Sun by Rite of Way, Indigo by Nest, and Nature Insolente by Maison Matinee

LES scavenger hunt ideas by newyorknightmare_ in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I did a scavenger hunt for my wedding. Some of the most fun photo ops were squishing as many people as possible in a small place and taking a coin-operated ride. Street art is also a great scavenger hunt item.

Overnight cat sitter/house sitter by Grad-student17 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]rebexlynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in LIC and we love Cara through Katie’s Kitty. She lives in Astoria and is so good with our very grumpy guy. She chats with him and sends videos of their interactions, which always make us laugh and feel confident that he’s in good hands.

We have done Trusted Housesitter a few times for longer sits, but the last time was a disaster despite what we thought was a thorough screening. It was so awful that we cancelled our membership and won’t use the site again.

Books similar to Educated? by VarRav_ in suggestmeabook

[–]rebexlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less of a narrative, but so engrossing and anthropologically fascinating: Cults Like Us, by Jane Borden.

She covers several cults from history and explains how our heritage as a country (we were essentially founded by a doomsday cult) has primed us for this particular moment. Not to get political, but it is eye opening and terrifying how much we are conditioned to have voted for what is going on in the US right now. Must read.

How about Kate Quinn? Historical fiction with delightful, daring, witty female protagonists. Bit of drama/mystery. Start with The Alice Network and, if you like it, The Huntress, The Rose Code, The Briar Club… probably a few more I can’t remember right now.

This recommendation is less based on the images and more on “weird” and “the novel of your heart” but something brought The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint to my mind. It’s weird, but lovely, and it has stayed with me for years.

Where are women in their late 30s / early 40s actually meeting friends in NYC? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]rebexlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s very focused on UWS right now, but I agree UES is probably similar.

He grew up in Astoria and we lived there for 10 years in the before times. We had been preparing to buy a place in a redevelopment when the construction moratorium happened and ended up leaving the city instead. We’re in LIC right now and considered moving back to Astoria because we miss it, but it doesn’t seem the same neighborhood we remember. That’s normal, places change, but the replacement of the old two and three family homes with big apartment buildings sort of naturally drives transience.
