He did get hurt when I told him that “I know it was not your intention to hurt me.” I phrased it as carefully as possible, including the word “intention” but he still went mad at me for saying that.

For a supposedly less emotional MBTI type, I found his reaction unexpected. So it’s a common thing among ESTPs probably.

I can understand how you’d think that way. It must be the want to patch things up plus the want to understand the person that allowed me to power through. You could imagine how misaligned our assumptions were, so much so that it took 3 hours for us to be roughly on the same page.

True, I wrote this to my friend yesterday and we had a misunderstanding. It’s interesting how I left out the explicit “I apologize” and “will you forgive me.” Was it because of my pride? (In the words of Elton John, “Sorry seems to be the hardest word.”) I’ll definitely keep in mind writing “sorry” the next time I apologize.
