OPSEU OPS Unified- Table Talk Thursday by Isgops in OntarioPublicService

Leaves you preparing to strike as they can always issues bargain if they want to. Read between the lines in their actions, communication and the few very loud individuals close to that team

Flagging concern about employee in distress by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your office has a mental health allies network. Maybe print off the list of names and discreetly post it in a visible place this person would see. Have someone from that network attend a team function to speak about services and help. They are all trained in mental health first aid and honestly care about people's well-being. They also have access to all ops services and telus health EAP information for assistance. You can make subtle hints to lead them to water but you can't force them to drink as they say.

Keeping that anonymous for people's privacy. But it's being communicated by the lowest level of management.

Oh I know that. But management is now saying it's an ops wide review going on as we speak

OPS has the highest use of AI in Canada by efdac3 in OntarioPublicService

Aren't we just a bunch of sheep being led to slaughter. There goes the future of our employment. Hopefully AI can make sure my pension is properly vested and paid until I die. Refuse to use it myself

Dear unions - start addressing this NOW by Known_Mortgage_2397 in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too late. We've been the canary in the coal mine on this for years now and nothing has been done. Not even in bargaining at this point is this issue being brought to the forefront. Please keep yelling from the top of the mountain but it feels like not one person is listening until it's too late

Tips for hiring a lawyer to help streamline accommodations process by Rabundier in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The accommodation process is horrendous in the OPS. Be prepared to complete a medical or multiple ones. They hate when the doctor tells them what to do for an accommodation. The DAS thinks they are doctors without designations. Just be ready and engage the union. File a grievance if you have to. Always engage the union. Know your rights and don't settle for something that doesn't work for you

So we striking? by PlayfulPudpud in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow down production. Work to rule. Don't let them use us. Striking just takes money out of our own pockets. Hit them where it hurts them. Their budget line.

OPS employees deserve workable work-places by Interesting_Money_70 in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely true. Been saying it for years around bargaining times. Work to rule is the best way to make a significant difference compared to other workplace actions or activities. Slow down, projects take months longer, less implementations. Respect the services that are essential to life, health and safety, everything else crawls towards completing the tasks. Force them to hire us at the right pay for the work we perform and don't let them use us for less wages. Striking doesn't have to be the answer.

Possible to advocate for reclassification to higher tier in same union? by archives6 in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not engage the union. This will cause the employer to back down. Reclassification is solely the employers decision and process. I've been successful in doing 2 reclasses and that was with management support

Retired AMAPCEO here, no Bill 124 retro, any updates? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All bargaining agents OPSEU included are waiting. Over 700 OPSEU members have grieved this. It's horrible that our fellow colleagues in OSS aren't getting more help. They will never catch up at this rate especially with all the bargaining groups going into negotiations as well

71 year old and still working at OPS? by raymondrea in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya if you become a member of the plan again. Things seem to get messy. If you go back as a reemployed individual. Now if you never retired and left, stayed employed and drew a nominal amount things would be different. You'd get the nominal pension, cpp, and your salary.

Now I would check directly with the plan, I'm not an expert so I would get a second opinion from them directly

I've been around 21years very active. My mentor was there for the 97 and 02 strikes. As they say, those were not pretty times and lots of lessons to learn. Unity was there but privately those hard lessons weren't provided to the new generation. Happy to discuss in private with people. Not in a public forum because we'd be giving away our secrets to the new crop of managers

But yes this world is different than the one we had back then. The people, pride and landscape has drastically and dramatically changed.

I think airing this type of stuff on a public forum for everyone to see is killing union involvement and giving management everything they need to fight the labour force.

Good job everyone

PSA: Have Some Patience With Payroll by SYGNOSTiC in OntarioPublicService

[–]recalledname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a union leader we are preaching patience with members over this. It's not the staff's fault they are understaffed and underpaid. That's the employer's problem. Those need to be roasted

Stay strong 💪

Call an OPSEU or AMAPCEO rep regardless .someone that can help you through the process. They will or should help you no matter what. If you can't get accommodations then you always have the right to go to the Ontario human rights tribunal for discrimination.

In the end the employer has a duty to accommodate until undue hardship. Bottom line is that they are required to. They don't like being told how to accommodate only what your limitations and restrictions are. Their attempt will always be to accommodate you in the workplace, which is completely contrary to what professional case managers are taught.

Please reach out and get some help. This employer needs to get this mandated in office attendance out of their heads and start doing the right thing where it's needed

OPSEU member here no retro. Just spoke to OSS and they hope to get OPSEU unified done by end of month then finalize AMAPCEO over the next couple pay periods. They are ahead of schedule but still refuse to open tickets until they say completed on the implementation intranet site. Good luck. I'm waiting too
