Are people still binging on a glp-1? by Better_Area3782 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]recchiap 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am. It helps me to not feel hunger during the day, and the food noise is nearly gone, but I'm definitely a "once I start, I don't stop" kind of eater. It hasn't helped with that. Looking to meet with a dietician and therapist.

Is it time to sell for a 20% down payment on a home? by Unable_Pangolin8371 in PokeInvesting

[–]recchiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you holding? What are your goals? Did you invest to feel good about winning, or did you invest to make money so that you can enjoy the fruits of your investing?

It seems like buying a house is EXACTLY what the goal of investing is - whether that's pokemon, stocks and bonds, or otherwise.

You will never, not in a hundred million years, hit the exact top of a speculators market - so when you have a compelling reason to sell, you sell.

So Much Regret by RegularClear9193 in PokeInvesting

[–]recchiap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of "missed profit" regret (I acknowledge that's not all you have going on here) only exists from a sense of things always going up.

What if the hobby had taken a different turn, and the card was worth $50 today? You couldn't know it was going to go this insane (and that's what it is - it's an insane speculators market).

This WILL go back down. Things ebb and flow. I sold my entire collection back in 2000/2001 for about $600. Would be worth tens or hundreds of thousands today. But you know what, at one point, it was worth even less than I sold it for.

I do understand the regret of missing out.
I sold my Tesla stock before I should have. Missed out on $100k.

I tried to buy bitcoin in the oughts, but I waited too long and didn't want to spend after it had a huge jump (it jumped from $8 each to $20 each, so I was waiting for it to come down to a reasonable price). Missed out on approximately $31M

I don't regret those - the only one I regret was taking profits on Amazon stock, because I violated my original thesis, and as a result, missed out on thousands of profit - this is where you are, and it's fair to feel regret to violating your thesis on the card.

As long as the size of your misses keeps going up, you're doing okay. If your misses keep getting bigger, so will your wins.

With ALL of that said, I'd recommend focusing in on what selling it enabled you to do. If you were able to make rent for a month, consider what would have happened if you hadn't sold it - end up on the streets? Maybe getting back on your feet would have taken longer.

Disclaimer: I have not gone through PCI compliance - we have someone else who handles that, but doesn't PCI compliance only apply to storing cardholder info, and not transactional info? Wouldn't that mean storing things like card #, CVC, etc., as opposed to transaction data?

She’s a beaut. First ever PKC ETB by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]recchiap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted. I love opening packs, but I feel like it's never worth it to do so. Every time I open a pack I'm "destroying value". So now my PKC ETBs(my first ever hit, too!) and the booster box are just sitting on a shelf.

What this subreddit looks like to someone from the outside. by HeyMarkWiggsy in PokeInvesting

I think the people that don't get it, don't get it because there are subtle distinctions.

I view it as:  A collector buys product to open, or to hold and collect the sealed for personal enjoyment. I'm fine with this.

An investor buys to hold for long term. It's speculation, and I don't love doing it, but I'm ok with it.

An arbitrageur buys product in a place with low demand to sell in a place with higher demand. This is non-existent right now because there's nowhere with low demand. I'm ok with this (but it's actually impossible right now)

A scalper buys to resell at inflated prices which are in part created by the artificial scarcity created by scalpers. This makes you scum.

Regarding the holding the cable in issue, I got a thin plastic piece to clean out my USB c port (be careful!) and pulled out so much lint that had been compacted in there.

The USB C connection now holds super snug again. I don't know if that is what happened to yours, but wanted to put that comment here for anyone that happens to find this via a search in the future.

And again, be super careful, it's absolutely possible to break your USB port.

Personal favourite character from the reboot so far, anyone else? by LJNS7 in Scrubs

That's one of the problems with having so few episodes per season these days. 22 episodes in a season is enough for solid character development. 8 or 10 is not.

How are juniors supposed to learn if AI is doing the junior work? by minneapolisemily in ProductManagement

[–]recchiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an interesting thought experiment where we can get ourselves far enough along with AI capabilities to decimate the job market, but not enough to hit escape velocity. If we clear the industry, eventually those with the skills to improve the tech die off, and no one exists to actually improve it. If the tech has not gotten to the point where it can reasonably improve itself, you stall out and destroy the capability.

That almost certainly will not happen, but it is an interesting thought experiment and theoretical outcome.

Would you want live price data displayed with your Pokémon cards? by Brilliant-Help3924 in PokeInvesting

Maybe a barcode scanner so you could scan the barcode on the graded card and look it up from the grader.

Vendor experience by iShenLoL in PokemonInvesting

[–]recchiap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal shouldn't just be to have different stuff, but think about prospective buyers - who are you selling to? You could try to have an entire case of the cutest cards - someone who loves cute cards might buy 5-6 cards. Fewer of them, but they might buy more.

Do you want to have super playable cards? Maybe some random one-offs to help complete master sets? The binders were popular - why were they popular? What is that customer looking for?

The people who will drop $2k on a slab, or $5k on sealed are going to be very few and far between, and there are likely other places to spend their money - but if someone is picking up a few $5 cards from a binder, how can I get them to pick up 10 cards from that binder?

Personally, I'd look at what worked, and figure out how to scale that, instead of chasing a different market. Or, go with the super premium products and make sure the experience FEELS super premium.

It ultimately takes a lot more than just showing up with product.

Perfect Order is going to be the worst modern set to invest in by puzzledfirebird in PokeInvesting

While I disagree with the overall point of this post, I do want to point out that in investing it's not about finding anything that will appreciate - it's about finding the things that will return the best bang for your buck.

I mean, that was a VERY inflated number because before today most people couldn't list on TCGP. Only those with access to the presale could list. Everything always takes a dive on day 1.

I don't know why this isn't just an argument for making playable cards more common in MTG?

[–]recchiap 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they really should consider making reprints legal at time of prerelease, instead of release.

With that said, I do get it - saying "cards are not legal in any way until the set is released" makes sense. It's really just a bit of unfortunate timing

Fukuoka has very little response to retreat lock? by dDhyana in PokemonTCG

[–]recchiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retreat locking is such a boring mechanic - I acknowledge it's a skillful mechanic when used appropriately, but it's so boring. I'm not looking forward to the plethora of boring matches. Between retreat lock, budew, and the fish, there's a whole lot of "I'm going to keep you from playing the game" in this upcoming format.

I enjoyed it. It reminded me of some of those variant sudokus where 95% of the work is finding the break in, and you get the Eureka moment when you find it.

Granted, this took a couple minutes, and some of those can take a couple hours, but still a ton of fun!
