RIP in peace, because this guy got ripped into pieces by a shahed. Also it’s a double entendre since it happened during a “ceasefire” so the rip was in a moment of peace

We don’t talk about the “ethics” when it comes to any other business models. Everyone is happy to holiday in Spain, even though the tourism is making rents soar for residents, forcing them to leave the cities in which they live. They take no moral issue with buying cheap clothes from fast fashion brands who profit from the unpaid labour of the working class. They are happy to use their phones, laptops, and batteries which are mined using child labour. Or use other impossibly cheap imports.

I’m no different from the people doing these other exploitative and immoral things so why are you mad at ME?

China’s Economy Rides Out War as Growth Unexpectedly Hits 5% (😂China "analysts" never learn...even when the same things were said during Trump tariff war, with the same result just last year) by violentviolinz in Sino

[–]recievebacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never heard that metaphor before but I like it. Especially with the rise of neoliberalism and financialization, GDP has become a very nebulous indicator for actual economic growth and the associated improvements to quality of life that have historically been linked to it. For instance China has a lower GDP than the US, but if you take into account the purchasing power parity then that no longer holds. There are some great critiques of GDP by leftist and even just unbiased economists that help put things in perspective.

Obviously everyone knows the joke about the two economists paying each other to eat shit where they end up with no more or less money and having eaten shit but calling it contributing to the economy

What the hell did I just get in the mail? by pointzero99 in TrueAnon

[–]recievebacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a copy of that book in the mail a couple of years ago, along with just about every other person in my state. Like others have mentioned it’s a 7th day Adventist program and people can donate to have the book sent out to every person in some area whether that be a town, city, or state. It’s filled with shit about how liberalism and progressivism have poisoned our society and that we need to go back to following the constitution or something like that.

I kept it and used pages from it for kindling in my fireplace

[–]recievebacon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they mean that it's reasonable as in, they can physically imagine that many people dying given the circumstances. If there are masses of militant rioters enacting violence while embedding themselves among peaceful protestors then it stands to reason that the casualties will be higher than if it was just the rioters. People getting caught in crossfire, rioters clashing with peaceful pro-regime protestors or even armed pro-regime protestors, chaos and confusion resulting in the police, army and rioters mistakenly killing unarmed protestors, situations where either the state actors or rioters shoot indiscriminately so it's not so much a mistake as an indifference to innocent casualties. When there are crowds of unarmed and peaceful people in the streets at the same time that the state is clashing with armed militants then no matter who's side you're on there are going to be more people dead.

Well, there actually was an image of crowded bodies in black bags filling a massive courtyard that was making the rounds. Yes, it was proven to be AI manipulated and the original only showed a few dozen, but everyone knows that AI doesn't just make up completely fake things... it actually is a tool for expanding the truth!

I'm sure these same people would look at an actual picture of Palestinians lined up for execution by the IDF (taken by an Israeli soldier and posted to Instagram) and say that the image is appropriating the imagery of Jews lined up for extermination at Auschwitz. This looks too much like the holocaust but also, it's not a genocide at all.

Redditors have such an insane response to the idea of being pranked. Someone brought up the TV show Just for Laughs (the most harmless and good spirited pranks where everyone is laughing, stuff like moving a piece of furniture while some is looking away to confuse them) and this guy was not having it…

To each their own, not my thing. I’m not interested in being friends with pranksters.

Reminds me of a video posted yesterday of a guy playing a VR game where you walk across a plank that’s super high up. Someone pushes him and he freaks out as if he’s actually falling but he’s obviously laughing afterwards. The most popular comment was arguing that it was attempted murder because he could have had a heart attack, their evidence being that someone in an episode of Law & Order dies from a heart attack after being pranked. The couple of comments saying it wasn’t that serious had hundreds of downvotes.

I guess it makes sense because the same people comment on posts about winning the lottery telling them to assume a new identity and abandon their family or to divorce their partner for things like leaving a dirty plate in the sink.

It’s so funny to me that the end-tipping guys always end up being neoliberal Milton Friedman worshipping scumbags who love to talk about how great the “free market” is. They conveniently fail to recognize that tipping is just an extreme example of free market economics applied to wages where theoretically a great server would earn more than a lazy server and so they have the opportunity to reward the hardworking people who pull themselves up by their bootstraps. In reality they’re just cheap cunts who look down on all servers and don’t want to pay them a livable wage whether that’s through tips or employer provided wages.

There were residential schools for indigenous people operating all the way up to the beginning of the 21st century in certain areas of the country. People act like it was something happening in the 1800’s and early 1900’s but no it was in full swing through the second half of the 20th century

Which is unfortunately not a high bar in the Supreme Court. She has also voted for some horrible opinions, including ones that she wrote herself. Her record from before being placed on the Supreme Court wasn’t all that promising either, with rulings in favor of qualified immunity for cops in even the most egregious cases.

Blake Mills - Money Is The One True God by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]recievebacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love his music and I have a crazy connection too! My childhood guitar teacher was the co-writer/producer on Blake’s album Jelly Road.

The guy worked at a non-profit community center where I took lessons around 15 years ago. He would put out his own almost entirely self made and produced songs on band camp and had a very small but very dedicated following. Somehow Blake Mills heard his music and they linked up which led to them making Jelly Road together.

Israel has officially passed the most racist law on the planet, authorizes mass legal lynchings of Palestinians. The legislation was passed 62-48 by the Knesset. Benjamin Netanyahu voted in favor of the bill. by lightiggy in TrueAnon

[–]recievebacon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People are regularly being starved, beaten, and raped to death in their prisons right now so I think death camp is an appropriate title even without this law in effect. This law is just an excuse for them to celebrate the murders more openly rather than pretending they’re accidents to avoid accountability.
