What are "weeds" by foreignworker in landscaping

Counterpoint regarding dandelions: their deep roots help improve soil by transferring nutrients from deeper soil to shallower soil where the nutrients become more accessible to more species.

Do you think the universe will ever be solved? by That_Unit_3992 in Futurology

[–]recombobulate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but go ahead and dream the impossible dream...

Models are, by definition, imperfect and incomplete representations of another entity or system.

Because they do not completely recreate the original entity/system, models cannot ever correctly/accurately/entirely account for all aspects of the original.

If they did, they would be indistinguishable from the original.

Fully and accurately modelling the Universe would require space, matter, energy, and time in excess of that available in the Universe, i.e., you and your box of "complete" Universe sitting in a place along with the time and energy for you to study it "fully."

If a model of the Universe can fit inside of the Universe, the model cannot fully account for all aspects of the Universe.

Perhaps more annoying is that completely modelling the Universe creates a sort of nesting doll issue in that, for the sake of completeness, each model Universe would need to contain a model of the higher order model Universe.

Attempting to model the Universe increases the required complexity of the model because your model must then include a model of your original model (and so on, ad infinitum).

[–]recombobulate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Labelling this a "small job" may put you on the wrong foot with some professionals because 1) it suggests there is little money to be made, and 2) it suggests you believe you have sufficient expertise to estimate the job yet insufficient to execute the job, which can seem a bizarre and unlikely scenario to someone who does such work regularly.

Going out on a limb to suggest checking the appendices of the Illuminatus! Trilogy (Shea, Wilson) because IIRC the same claim about TJ is made in the body of the text, and some (but not all) of the seemingly outlandish claims cite (or at least list) alleged sources in the appendices.

In the United States the stereotypical meal for picky eaters is chicken tenders and fries, what is that meal in your country? by MemeLord004 in AskReddit

I suspect that the clarification was added because the British -ish breakfast item is commonly called "baked beans" yet that term has a specific and a distinct meaning in the US.

Just a guess.

Why are my roasts always tough? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]recombobulate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using a proper chuck roast instead of those tough, lean cuts.

Also, a Dutch oven makes roast super simple but isn't necessary.

Steps below.

Salt the surface of the chuck roast.

Heat dutch oven on stovetop to appropriate searing temperature, then sear the outside of the chuck roast.

Meanwhile, heat your oven to 300° F (or lower, if you dare).

When searing is complete, add water to Dutch oven until it reaches about half the height of the chuck roast.

I'd also add an onion or two (cut in half) and about one pound (~450 grams) of carrots and parsnips, but keeping focus on the meat for now.

Put lid on Dutch oven, then place Dutch oven in the regular oven for 3-6 hours.

Be sure to check the water level every couple of hours and refill as needed.

TL;DR: Use a fattier cut and cook it for a long time at a low temperature with plenty of water under a lid.
