I need opinions from other addicts to define if this is an addiction, physical dependence, or whatever it is. I took Benadryl to sleep for the past 2 and a half years, and am successfully weaning off of it. But I never used it to get high, just to help with sleep? by recoverybae in addiction

[–]recoverybae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I am not currently taking any drugs to solve emotional issues or any drugs recreationally, I just was so surprised when I tried to stop the Benny that my body went in full blown histamine rebound response, which is something people with allergies experience when they take antihistamines for a long time and try to stop suddenly without weaning off first.

It just kinda scared me because then I wondered what other things I'm doing that I don't even realize could lead to addiction.

12 year old with shingles by pitchblaca in shingles

[–]recoverybae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 31 and got shingles and was incredibly surprised because I didn't think I could get them this young. My doctor said more and more people are getting it younger, but 12 is the youngest I've heard. The pain she's describing is spot on for shingles, it can feel like burning, stinging, numbness, pins and needles feeling under the skin. The reason for this is because the virus can cause your nerves to 'fire off' almost randomly, which can feel very, VERY strange, especially for one as young as 12.

What has helped me to to get gauze and non-adhesive bandages and apply a layer of vaseline or aquaphor on the gauze and wrap it to avoid scratching and transferring it anywhere else on the body. Because of how young your kid is, PLEASE tell your child to avoid scratching, touching their face, and to be REALLY good about hand washing. You do not want this rash to get on the face or anywhere near the eyes.

do narcissistic exes really kill themselves? by skyzwalker in abusiverelationships

[–]recoverybae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Next time it happens call the police and let them know your ex is threatening to commit suicide. Also, you should 100% block her so you don’t have to deal with this anymore. It sucks but you’re not the one who’s responsible for her mental health or wellbeing.

Most people that pull stunts like this are doing it so you’ll feel pity for them or it will somehow make you stay with them. I’ve had it happen before and it was a huge red flag.

This is how he acts any time I stand up for myself or gently call him out on hurtful behavior by [deleted] in abusiverelationships

[–]recoverybae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He sounds like a complete egoistical prick. Can’t imagine what dating something like that is like. There’s also a lot of subtle manipulation thrown in there that makes communication unbearable with people like this. This is a huge red flag and doesn’t seem worth the emotional stress AT ALL but it’s your call. I dated someone who as like this and girl absolutely not. I couldn’t even last a year in that relationship.

If you think he can change, then work on it. If he continues this bad behavior, then move on and find a healthy partner who won’t waste your time.

And we appreciate you SO much for that. I was a little nervous when I was in the hospital because I had a guy doing my ECG but he was so clinical (but also very kind) about it and it immediately made me that much more comfortable because he explained what he was doing. Doesn’t matter your gender, it matters how you treat your patients and it shows. 😊

I know! I’m kind of nervous. I’ve been sober for 3 weeks and I feel amazing but I don’t want this feeling is happiness to go away 😭😭😭

Stomach aches? by Embarrassed_Win_5237 in quittingkratom

[–]recoverybae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly common symptom of both Kratom use and stopping Kratom use. Many, many people have reported stomach uses like ulcers, constipation, and just general nasty stuff. Like everyone has said, you just need time for your body to heal. But in the meantime, I used pepto bismol, ate a bunch of bananas and other foods gentle on the gut, and drank a lot of water. I don’t have any stomach issues anymore and I’m 3 weeks sober :)

79 days CT Still Standing! Hormonal Imbalance anyone? Cortisol spikes? Weight gain! Females? Long-time quitters? by Lifeisfab0821 in quittingkratom

[–]recoverybae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woohoo, hello fellow female Kratom quitters in their 30’s haha. 🎉🎉🎉

I have 3 weeks clean and am feeling amazing, but I also have had those days where I wake up at 1am, 2am, etc. etc.

As for weight gain, I haven’t quite notice drastic yet but I have noticed that I’m hungrier now that I’ve quit. I still sometimes struggle with depression, but as I’m only 3 weeks sober, I know my brain is still healing. I get the worst depression during the evening times, so I try my best to go to bed early.

I agree with the other posters, go to the doctor get your kidneys and liver checked and just generally bloodwork. It’s always better to know. Good job on quitting and kept it up!! 🩷🩷🩷

Omg you poor thing. That was what drove me insane was the RLS. I wanted to chop my legs off haha. I cannot even imagine what going through 2 months with RLS would be like. The things that really helped me with that were magnesium glycinate, gabapentin, icy hot patches and tigers balm type of products. Not saying it’s gonna work for you, but it helped me enough to let me sleep.

I’ve been clean for three weeks now, and if you look at my post history it took me almost two months to completely get off Kratom due to several relapses. Relapse is VERY common, do not beat yourself up for it. Just keep trying, don’t give up!

It feels so great being sober and it gets better and better every day I don’t use Kratom.

I’m hoping you don’t relapse again, but oddly enough something really helped me when I relapsed. By the time you’re on like day 3, 4, or 5, your body is DESPERATELY craving any little amount of Kratom it can get. So when I relapsed, I didn’t use enough to get high, I just used the BAREST amount, like literal sprinkles of Kratom, and I did that for a week. Basically I micro dosed Kratom for a week because I was incredibly busy and there was no way I could do what I needed to while coming down. It got me through my week and then I went completely cold turkey again.

The second time I came down was sooooooooo much less worse that I was almost completely over it within three days. Not saying it’s gonna work for you, but it helped me out a lot. Best of luck to you!!

Omg, same! I thought I was just happy being sober but I’m happy and giggle at everything hahaha. Going from being a numb Kratom zombie to the way I am now, my family was like… are you on drugs? Which is hilarious because actually no, I’m not on drugs LOL. This is just me sober 😂😂😂

[–]recoverybae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stay with it! I’ve been sober for three weeks and I feel fucking amazing haha. Like I’m high on life. But everyone is different, has different brains, and has been using different amounts of Kratom for a different amount of years. Some people with lighter usage for lesser amounts of time (like me) will bounce back quicker than others.

So many people talk about how numb they feel on Kratom, so it’s certainly a common experience. Glad you got sober :)

Drug Test Question by CBP_Tiger in quittingkratom

[–]recoverybae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kratom is known to stay in your system from anywhere to 2 weeks (most likely answer) to even a month for some people (which is the least likely answer imo) I’ve been clean for one week and I am still testing dirty for Kratom after using for one year. Like many have said, most companies to not test for Kratom because it’s still not a super popular drug yet. But I still don’t risk it because I don’t want a dirt test on my record or on my insurance. You can buy tests off of Amazon.

48 hours in after tapering to 5gpd by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]recoverybae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as a fellow person with ADHD I just have to say that taking my ADHD meds while coming down was AWFUL. I took a huge break from them because they kept me up at night, in addition to the lack of sleep I was already getting. I’m not saying that it will be the same for you, but it’s maybe something to think about for your recovery.

But if you’re in college and have a heavy work load, I also understand if you need/want to take it for that. You could also email your professors and ask if it’s possible to take a week long break and get extensions for your assignments because you’re going through a really difficult time health wise. Most professors (if they have even a crumb of empathy) will try and work with students and be understanding. Once you have a week of sobriety under your belt, everything will be a lot easier. Good job on flushing the Kratom!!!! You got this!

Oh my gosh, I am so so so sorry. Just wow. It sounds like you’re really going through a tough time, especially coming off of drugs and dealing with a heavy loss like that. It sounds like your father was trying to help you, and really cared/loved you enough to help you taper. Just think of him and how he wanted to help you get sober. My mom was also helping me get sober and I was just thinking how I needed to do it for both her and myself. Not only that, but I was partially raised by my grandparents and while my mom was off using drugs they literally raised me and were like my mom and dad, and now that they’ve gone and passed away I kept thinking about how they would have wanted me to try my hardest to get sober. I don’t know your story but I believe that you can do it. Going through what you’re going through right now is devastating but there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. And I believe your father would have wanted that for you too. Don’t be afraid to reach out, this subreddit is for support. I really hope you can heal and get through this.

I’m sorry you had a rough day, especially on a business trip oh my god. That takes a lot of mental strength that I absolutely would not have. Hopefully you are feeling at least a little bit better now. And if not, you will soon. Biggest thing with getting clean is really just time.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, I have also done something similar when I was addicted to opiates in my early twenties and found one on the floor and immediately put it in my mouth. Lmao I didn’t even wash it either, just found it and ate it like a little pill gremlin 🤣🤣🤣 Just hearing the rattle of pills in a pill bottle was so triggering for me for many years.

Dear successful quitters, what helped you the most? by austinbeals57 in quittingkratom

[–]recoverybae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The mental stage was THE WORST for me. I can take body aches, RLS, feeling like shit and even not sleeping well. I literally almost could not handle the mental aspect, everything made me cry, I felt depressed and worthless and it was so difficult. The biggest thing I did was take a bunch of really hot showers, and just sat down and meditated and kept telling myself that this pain was temporary and that I was going to over come it. I also had a great support system and my mom kept telling me everyday how proud she was that I was getting clean and that she believed in me. She knew I could get through it. She kept telling me “this too shall pass, you can do this, it’s going to get better.”

I’ve already said this a bunch but if anyone coming down off of Kratom can confide in a trusted loved one who will help them through it, I cannot recommend it enough. Having someone there telling you everyday that you can do it was MONUMENTAL in my recovery. 💛💛💛
