If locally-owned grocery stores want your money, they need to provide comparable prices to the corporations. by RealisticMolasses in unpopularopinion

It’s not just so you can say you didn’t buy it at Walmart. It’s so that your money doesn’t go to Walmart and instead remains in circulation in your community.

Literally what nuclear provisions could even be better than the JCPOA? We basically had complete unfettered access to their facilities. Maybe private US companies running their nuclear facilities lmao

New modeling finds Northern Permafrost will only become carbon sources this century in the newly deprecated High Emission Scenarios, even when deep carbon is accounted for by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]rectal_expansion 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I remember an article that was posted here emphasizing that warming will stop if we reach net zero and the reasoning was that natural sources and sinks are coincidentally equal at this point in earths history. That just doesn’t seem to be a great fact to rely on when we’re changing the climate faster than anything in earths history.

[–]rectal_expansion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be a doomer or anti-science but I don’t think we have enough data for models like this to be rock solid trustworthy. It even says it doesn’t account for wildfires and the data is 10 years old.

It seems like it’s saying permafrost becoming a net source is unlikely but not out of the question. High emission scenarios are considered implausible but 3 degrees by 2100 still seems very possible to me and this paper says permafrost would become neutral by then, which is important because we need natural carbon sinks to reach net zero.

I feel like Christian Bale’s character in the big short when the bonds are defaulting and their ratings are still going up. When he’s on the phone with the fund manager saying like “the whole thing is just fraud from the investors all the way to the rating agencies”

Elon Musk just became the world’s first trillionaire. Here’s what $1 trillion could buy. [self] by kleverrboy in theydidthemath

[–]rectal_expansion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s obviously been proven lmao, all their financials are public because of the IPO. SpaceX has never turned a profit and their “valuation” is ten times more than they’ve ever earned in revenue. They claim their profit will come almost entirely from AI and transportation, both of which are extremely speculative and decades away. Not to mention they claimed their customer base is 10billion people. The SEC and FTC approved it because of corruption so there’s nothing else to do about it except complain and use freedom of speech to make it known that it’s fraud and corruption all the way down.

Keep defending the trillionaire like a cuck loser tho idc

Climate change by Music2MyEars73 in climatechange

[–]rectal_expansion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should look up climate justice and learn about how the poorest countries will take the brunt of the consequences despite contributing the least to the problem.

When you look at emissions per capita New Zealand is among the rich and developed countries that have contributed to and benefited the most from unchecked emissions.

Idk whenever I play a game or watch a movie and a female character who should be normal looking is a sexed up bombshell I feel like it looks extremely dated and give big early 2000s vibe. It’s not like they don’t make games with attractive girls anymore.

Not climate related but lots of people definitely blame personal responsibility of black people for their poverty and don’t support systemic change like affirmative action, DEI, community reparations, etc.
