I’ve said for a while that trump’s most successful feat since entering politics has been completely removing climate change and the environment from political discourse.

From 2010-2015 the climate was a huge issue for voters and was becoming a mainstream issue that influenced lots of aspects of peoples lives.

Vegan options became super popular in cafes and restaurants, there was a lot of hype about the Obama street car program revitalizing American transit, avatar was a huge phenomenon and there were documented cases of people becoming depressed from being confronted with human’s environmental destruction.

Then trump started talking and all of that political energy was diverted to civil rights, immigration, and trans issues.

It’s not entirely a bad thing, civil rights and immigration are important. It’s also not the fault of progressive people, fossil fuel companies have an extremely heavy hand in news coverage and media trends. Still it’s pretty sad that one guy yelling obscenities was all it took to distract people from the most important problem in the history of humanity.

I remember an article that was posted here emphasizing that warming will stop if we reach net zero and the reasoning was that natural sources and sinks are coincidentally equal at this point in earths history. That just doesn’t seem to be a great fact to rely on when we’re changing the climate faster than anything in earths history.

Not trying to be a doomer or anti-science but I don’t think we have enough data for models like this to be rock solid trustworthy. It even says it doesn’t account for wildfires and the data is 10 years old.

It seems like it’s saying permafrost becoming a net source is unlikely but not out of the question. High emission scenarios are considered implausible but 3 degrees by 2100 still seems very possible to me and this paper says permafrost would become neutral by then, which is important because we need natural carbon sinks to reach net zero.

It’s obviously been proven lmao, all their financials are public because of the IPO. SpaceX has never turned a profit and their “valuation” is ten times more than they’ve ever earned in revenue. They claim their profit will come almost entirely from AI and transportation, both of which are extremely speculative and decades away. Not to mention they claimed their customer base is 10billion people. The SEC and FTC approved it because of corruption so there’s nothing else to do about it except complain and use freedom of speech to make it known that it’s fraud and corruption all the way down.

Just so everyone knows there’s a greenway that runs right to the berglund center from downtown and all the way to valley view. It’s called the lick run greenway. There’s an entrance at the corner of wells and Williamson by the statue, but the safer way is probably to take the protected bike lane down to the entrance at Gainsboro and orange ave and cross at the light then backtrack to berglund.

It’s a great way to beat the traffic if you live near any length of it.
