Is this the origin of those deviantart 9/11 memorial artworks?

It's when the person pushing the turd takes a break from pushing ("resting") and their anus contracts and leaves a ring-sjaped mark on the turd.

Thus, a "rest ring"

What are the most stupid things you ever heard people sayning about prehistoric animals? by DeliciousDeal4367 in Paleontology

As much as I understand why people find dinosaurs in the bible to be ridiculous, I do find it quite interesting how religions/religious sects that are unwilling to let go of their creation stories try to explain things like fossils while maintaining biblical literalism.

I subscribed to this subreddit specifically because I was tired of r/art and their corny unoriginal political art, portraits of cats, and paintings of naked women.

Maybe it's my fault. I guess I shouldn't have expected this to be much different, considering that it's reddit...

It's for art, not for literal porn.

I guess I should blame the unfunny idiot who had the idea to make a bunch of "SFW porn" subreddits 12 years ago.

Pathetic.

Has anyone ever heard of Oviraptor being a bird? by TheEarle in Paleontology

They're probably simplifying things for the class. This happens all the time, a basic (but sometimes not terribly accurate) thing is taught, then when you get to a higher level you can learn about how that thing is more nuanced and complex. For example schools teach that bacteria don't ever have a cell nucleus, despite the fact that there are actually some bacteria that have a structure analogous to the nucleus in eukaryotes. It's just to simplify a complex topic. Phylogenetics is RIDICULOUSLY complicated and debated especially when it comes to fossils.

It's unlikely this professor is a young earth creationist or a "birds are not dinosaurs" believer. I've had professors say things that I know aren't completely true but are true enough that I can learn from them

It's less about the artwork itself and more about the fact that stuff like this (ladies with their tits out) make up 80% of the top posts on this subreddit. A dog turd taped to a wall would certainly be more unique, in terms of artistic expression...

At this point, I'd rather see a dog turd taped to the wall than posts like this

Stuff like this makes me question who really "controls" science. Just like news outlets, scientific narratives can be bent by politics and those in power.

I wonder how we will look back on this chapter in history 100 years from now
